City Council highlights for the meeting held June 2, 2025

Delegations

Nitehawk Year-Round Adventure Park presented to Council requesting redirection of previously approved decommissioning funds for engineering and design work for a long-term replacement solution. Council directed Administration to meet with Nitehawk to find the best option to reopen the driving range, and bring a report back to a future Council Committee of the Whole meeting.

Mayor Jackie Clayton proclaimed May 19 to 25 as Community Disability Services Professional Appreciation Week in Grande Prairie.

The week honors the crucial role support workers play in making sure every Albertan has the opportunity to live rich, meaningful lives and celebrates the positive impact they make on countless lives. 

The City of Grande Prairie recognizes the important work of the Alberta Disability Workers Association for its advocacy in raising awareness among Albertans of this essential workforce.

Mayor Jackie Clayton proclaimed May 1-7 Youth Week in Grande Prairie.

Youth Week recognizes the contributions and potential of young people in our community and encourages ongoing collaboration to build a strong and supportive place to live for all. 

Youth Week concludes this year with the Youth Career Discovery Expo on May 8 at Bonnetts Energy Centre.

Sam Osman presented to Council regarding a multi-year property tax exemption policy for substantial residential rental projects.

Mayor Statement On Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives and Red Dress Day 2025

“Today, The City of Grande Prairie stands with all of Canada in recognizing Red Dress Day and remembering our Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (MMIR).

Red Dress Day is a time to reflect on and honour the lives lost and impacted due to violence against Indigenous people.  It also calls on us to take action and remember our commitments to Truth and Reconciliation for addressing the challenges Indigenous communities face.

Proclamations

Council proclaimed April 13-19 Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in Grande Prairie. 

The week recognizes the role public safety telecommunicators play on the frontline of emergency response and community safety and the compassion and professionalism of the staff at GP911.

Delegations

The Grande Prairie Stompede Association presented to Council on their plans for 2025, their impact on the region and how the City can support.

The Bear Creek Folk Music Festival Society presented to Council for a funding request.

City Council highlights for the meeting held March 24, 2025

Delegations

The Alberta Products Association presented to Council requesting support for Alberta’s forestry industry. Council moved for the Mayor to write a letter of support for the association.

Large Multi-Family Development Grant

Council approved amendments to Policy 357 Development Incentive Grants Program which included providing a grant equivalent to a portion of the municipal property taxes that would be levied on large multi-family developments for four years from when a building permit has been issued.
