Permits

A tenant improvement is renovations to the inside or outside of an existing building.

A building permit and subtrade permits will be required as per the scope of the project. 

Step 1: Apply

Depending on the scope of your project, you will require a variety of permits.

To determine if a lot grading permit is required, please contact Engineering Services at lotgrading@cityofgp.com for more information.

To determine if a development permit is required, please contact a Commercial Development Officer at 780-538-0325 to determine if your project will require a development permit.  

If deemed required, please submit a complete Development Application and/or Lot Grading Application

Please submit a complete Building Permit along with complete Sub Trade Application for all sub trade permits required as per the scope of work for the project. 

Step 2: Approval

Once a complete application is received, all permits will be issued within 2- 7 business days.

In the event a variance is required for an addition, timelines may extend up to 25 days.

Step 3: Construction

You may begin construction once you have received all required permits. Below is the contact information you may need for groundwork and utilities.

Depending on the scope of work, you may require a Fire Safety Plan posted on-site, prior to the commencement of construction.

Step 4: Inspections

All required inspections are listed on the conditions issued with the permit.

it is the Permit holder's responsibility to ensure all inspections are requested and received.
