City Hall Solar
City Hall has two distinct solar arrays. This infrastructure supports the City of Grande Prairie in minimizing its environmental impact and in working towards achieving its emission reduction goals.
- The combined power capacity of both arrays is 6 kW. This helps in meeting approximately 3% of the building's total energy use.
- The solar panels were part of a study conducted by NAIT. Their tilt and orientation were adjusted over time to understand the impact of snow on operations, as well as to maximize winter energy production.
The study found that energy loss is about 3% when solar panels are covered by snow. The success of these panels has proven that solar is a viable option for the Grande Prairie area.
