Streetlight Upgrades in Grande Prairie

The City of Grande Prairie continues to upgrade streetlighting across the community as part of ongoing infrastructure improvements.

More than 5,500 City-owned streetlights have already been converted to LED. All new subdivisions and roadways are built with LED lighting, and existing streetlights are upgraded as older fixtures reach the end of their service life.

Why LED lighting?

LED streetlights offer several benefits for the community:

Energy efficiency
LED lights use 40 to 60 per cent less energy than traditional lighting, helping reduce operating costs and energy use.

Lower maintenance needs
LED fixtures have a longer lifespan, which means fewer replacements and reduced maintenance over time.

Improved lighting quality
LED lighting can improve visibility for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists while reducing glare. An example of this can be seen along 84 Avenue between 100 Street and Resources Road.

Supports biodiversity
More focused lighting can help reduce disruption to migratory birds and other wildlife.

Environmentally conscious
LED lights do not contain mercury, making them safer to handle and dispose of than high-pressure sodium lights.

Report a streetlight issue

If you notice a streetlight that is not working properly or has been damaged, please report it so crews can investigate and arrange repairs.

Streetlight issues can be reported:

When possible, include a photo of the streetlight’s asset tag. Most streetlights in the city have a small metal ID tag that helps identify the correct light for repair.

If the asset ID is not available, the nearest address or exact location of the streetlight can also be used.
