Transit Impacts

• Transit Stop 242 temporarily closed on Poplar Drive

  Transit Stop 242 on Poplar Drive is temporarily closed during construction. Riders are directed to nearby Stop 240 until work is complete, currently scheduled for August 31.

• Transit stops 168 and 352 - Aquatera downtown watermain replacement

  Effective immediately, Grande Prairie Transit is detouring around the Aquatera downtown watermain replacement construction area.

  Transit stops 168 and 352 are temporarily out of service. Buses will detour via 102 Street and 97 Avenue before returning to the regular route at Towne Centre Mall.

  A temporary transit stop is being established near 97 Avenue and 101 Street.

  Riders should allow additional travel time while the detour is in place.

Tips for Using Transit

• Safety Tips

  • Please keep all large articles out of the aisle and have strollers or walkers folded or out of the aisle so others can pass safely.
  • For your safety, please do not engage the operator in unnecessary conversation while the bus is in motion.
  • To avoid potential injury, please do not chase after the bus once it has left the curb.
• Bus Etiquette Tips

  • Move on back’ and keep the front seats free for seniors and those with less mobility.
  • Make room for everyone by only taking up one seat per person
  • Keep conversations respectful of others, including cell phone conversations.
  • For everyone’s comfort, earphones are to be used when using any listening device.
  • No open food or beverages are allowed on the bus.
• Additional Transit Amenities and Guidelines

  • Have your SUPERPASS or cash (in coins only) ready when boarding. The drivers do not provide change.
  • Please step out of the shelter or off the bench as the bus approaches so you can be seen by the driver. 
  • All of Grande Prairie Transit buses are equipped with bike racks.
  • Abusive or inappropriate behaviour or language towards other passengers or our staff will not be tolerated and riding privileges may be suspended.

Transit FAQ's

• What time does transit service start?

  Service starts at 6:00 a.m. Monday through Friday and 8:00 a.m. on weekends.

• What time does the last bus leave downtown in the evening?

  Service ends at 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, and 6:15 pm on Sunday, dependent on the route.

• What are transfers and how long are they valid?

  • Transfers are a ticket that allow you to switch from one bus to another without paying an additional fare.
  • Transfers are valid for 120 minutes.
  • Transfers are FREE on GP Transit. 
  • When boarding the bus, ask the bus driver for a transfer.
• Can I use a transfer more than once?

  Yes. Just scan your transfer as you enter the bus. Transfers are still only valid for 120 minutes after issue.

• Who can ride the bus for free?

  • Persons showing either Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) National card can ride for free, companion will have to pay the appropriate transit fare.
  • Children ages 6 to 17 ride free with a valid SUPERPASS
  • Children ages 5 and under ride free when accompanied by a paying adult passenger, to a maximum of 4 children per adult. 
• Can I ride the bus if I am in a wheelchair?

  Transit drivers will lower the bus, extend the ramp, and lift the seat. You will have to manoeuvre your own chair to the accessible seating area. The Transit driver will then assist in securing the belt and assist you with securing your chair. If you require extra assistance we advise you to travel with a companion

• Are animals allowed on buses?

  Only small fur-bearing and feathered pets contained in secure, clean, hand-held cages are permitted on the bus.  Cages must be small enough to fit on the owner's lap.  Passengers must hold on to their cages at all times.  The cage should not block the aisle or restrict other passengers. Certified service animals are welcome on transit buses.  The driver may refuse a trip if your pet poses a health or safety risk, or if it misbehaves.

• I lost something on the bus- what do I do?

  Lost something on the bus?  Phone 780-538-0300 and provide the date, time, route number and description of the lost article.  We will do our best to find any lost articles and help you get your lost property back.  

• I found something on the bus- what do I do with it?

  If you find someone else’s property on the bus, please give it to the bus driver. We will do our best to return lost items to their rightful owners.

• What are transit office hours?

  Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm; closed on statutory holidays and weekends.

  The Transit Office is located in the City Service Centre at 9505 - 112 Street, which is on Route 3 in the Richmond Industrial Park.
