Cemetery FAQ

• Where is the cemetery?

  The cemetery is located at 11101-84 Avenue, on the south side of 84 Avenue between 108 Street (Wapiti Road) and 116 Street. The Cemetery Interments may be held between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  Visitations are allowed anytime during daylight hours. 

• What kind of monument can I put up for my loved one?

  Monuments must be of granite, marble, limestone or bronze unless otherwise approved  by the City, and no more than 42 inches tall.

• Are cremations allowed on an existing cemetery lot?

  Up to 6 cremations can fit on an existing standard lot. 

• What does Perpetual Care mean?

  Perpetual care refers to cemetery maintenance after it is full and closed.  The cemetery will always be kept mowed, trimmed and its flowers, trees and roads well cared for.

• What does it cost to bury someone at the Grande Prairie Cemetery?

• When are new gravesites landscaped after the winter season?

  Landscaping takes place throughout spring and summer on all gravesites, depending on weather conditions. 

• What items are not allowed on gravesites?

   Benches, arbours or anything over 36” (91 cm) tall. 

  • No hooks and crooks (safety hazard for mower). 
  • Glass and ceramic items, glass pebbles or small pebbles (safety hazard for maintenance equipment). 

  Items that do not meet regulations will be removed and held for 30 days at the cemetery shop for pickup. The cemetery shop is in the southeast corner of the cemetery.  To arrange for pickup of your items, call Cemetery Operations.

• Are staff available to help locate specific grave sites?

• What are standard cemetery plot measurements?

  • Adult lot - 4 feet x 12 feet 
  • Child lot - 3 feet x 5 feet
  • Cremation lot - 4 feet x 4 feet
• What happens to flowers left at gravesites?

  Our staff removes flowers regularly once they become withered, or when artificial flowers become faded and weathered. It is also possible that through wind damage the arrangements may be blown off the gravesite.
