Housing & Homelessness Advisory (HHAC)

The Housing & Homelessness Advisory Council Committee (HHAC) provides strategic advice and recommendations to Council and Administration on community housing and homelessness priorities, system-level planning, and the use of municipal, provincial and federal funding.

HHAC also serves as the Community Advisory Board on Housing & Homelessness (CABH) for the City of Grande Prairie under Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy – Designated Communities Stream, and other applicable provincial or federal programs as required.

The Committee’s overarching goal is to support coordinated, evidence-based and community-driven approaches to prevent and end homelessness in Grande Prairie.

Roles and Responsibilities 

The Housing & Homelessness Advisory Council Committee is an advisory body established by Council and is responsible for the following:

  • Provide advice and recommendations on strategic priorities related to housing and homelessness funding cycles.
    HHAC does not adjudicate funding proposals, award contracts or make binding decisions.
  • Act as the Community Advisory Board on Housing & Homelessness (CABH) when required by provincial and/or federal funding programs.
  • Review community plans, housing and homelessness strategies, sector reports and outcomes of funded programs.
  • Advise on policy considerations, system gaps and emerging issues to strengthen the local housing and homelessness system of care.
  • Engage with community members, service providers, housing operators and other stakeholders to better understand housing needs and homelessness trends.
  • Support the development of housing needs assessments and review local data to ensure advice and recommendations are evidence-based and responsive to emerging trends.

Membership

HHAC aims to reflect diverse community perspectives and experience. Membership may include individuals with lived or living experience of homelessness, as well as representation from the community at large, youth, seniors, people with disabilities, Indigenous Peoples, newcomers and immigrants, and representatives from health care, mental health and addictions, faith-based organizations, business, and government sectors.

At least six (6) meetings annually.
