Summer Camps

The City of Grande Prairie believes that the strength of our summer camp lies in the exceptional individuals who lead it. Our team of dedicated camp leaders is at the core of creating an enriching, safe, and enjoyable experience for your child. Each leader is carefully selected and trained, embodying our values of safety, fun, and personal development.

• Experienced and mature: All our camp leaders are 18 years or older, bringing a blend of maturity, enthusiasm, and experience to our camp.
• Safety first: We prioritize your child's safety. Every leader undergoes a rigorous criminal record check to ensure a secure environment for all.
• Skilled in child care: Our team members are selected for their experience and skill in working with children, ensuring that each day is both fun and enriching.
• Certified training: Our leaders are equipped with the following certifications:
  • First Aid and CPR to respond to emergencies.
  • High Five Certification to meet Canada’s highest standards for children’s recreation and sport programming, focusing on child development, program quality, and positive experiences.
  • Inclusion Training to create welcoming and accessible spaces for all participants.
  • Food Safe Certification to ensure safe food handling practices.
  • Respect in Sport Certification to promote respectful and positive interactions in sports and recreation.

At our summer camps, we understand the importance of clear and consistent communication with parents and caregivers. We've established a communication system to keep you informed and involved in your child's summer camp experience. 

1) Registration Confirmation Email

• Immediate confirmation: Whether you register online or in-person, you will receive a confirmation email promptly. This email confirms your child's spot and provides initial details about the camp.

2) Welcome Email - Friday Before Camp Begins

• Meet your camp leader: We’ll introduce you to your child’s camp leader through a brief bio and a photo. This helps familiarize you with the person supervising and guiding your child.
• Weekly camp schedule: We’ll include a detailed list of the week's activities, allowing you to plan accordingly. If there's a special theme for the week, you'll find that here too.
• Important Forms Included:
  • Consent form: To ensure we’re aligned on the care and activities involving your child.
  • Medical information form: For us to understand and cater to any specific health needs.
  • Photo and video release form: Giving you the choice to opt-in or out of your child's image being used in camp photos and videos.
• Parent Handbook: A comprehensive guide covering all aspects of our camp, from daily schedules to policies and procedures.

Staying Connected 
Our commitment to communication extends throughout the camp duration. We believe in keeping the lines open, ensuring you’re always in the loop about your child’s summer camp journey.

Camps will run from June 29 to August 21, 2026.
Please note there will be no camps on July 1 (Canada Day) or August 3 (Heritage Day).
 

Camp drop-off and pick-up times:

• Regular camp hours are 8:30 a.m.  to 4:30 p.m.
• Early drop-off between 8 to 8:30 a.m. is available as an add-on.
• Late pick-up between 4:30 to 5 p.m. is available as an add-on.

Camp daily checklist:
We recommend comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes suitable for outdoor activities as well as:

• Reusable water bottle: Hydration is essential! Equip your child with a refillable water bottle for the day.
• Sunscreen: Protect your child’s skin with sunscreen. We advise applying it before arrival and packing extra for reapplication.
• Snacks and lunch: Pack a large, nut-free snack and lunch (this includes all nut products). Microwaves are not available, so send food that does not require heating.
• Change of clothes: Activities can get messy! A spare set of clothes ensures your child stays comfortable.
• Hat: For sunny days, a hat will provide extra protection against the sun.
• Bug spray: To keep the pesky bugs at bay, include bug spray in your child’s pack.

Swimming Days: Additional items for camps with a swimming component, please also include:

• Swimsuit: Pack a comfortable swimsuit for water activities.
• Towel: Don’t forget a towel for drying off after swimming.

What Not to Bring – Leave These Items at Home:

• Personal items from home
• Cell phones and other electronics

Please be aware that registration for each of our summer camps closes on the Wednesday at 12 p.m. the week of the camp. This policy is in place to ensure that we have adequate time to prepare and send you all the necessary information and materials for your child's camp experience.

The Recreation Access Program (RAP) can be utilized towards City of Grande Prairie Summer Camps. Rap covers 75% of the camp cost. For more information on RAP click here.
