City of Grande Prairie Receives 2025 Minister’s Award for Red Tape Reduction and Service Delivery Enhancement

The City of Grande Prairie proudly accepted the 2025 Minister’s Award for Municipal Excellence at the City Council meeting held September 8, 2025 for work done to streamline the development permitting process.

The City won in the Red Tape Reduction or Service Delivery Enhancement award category for streamlining the permitting process by consolidating three separate applications - development permit, building permit, and civil site work - into a single, unified application and moving to a digital platform.

Award Presentation 

Council was presented with the 2025 Red Tape Reduction Minister’s Award by MLA Wiebe, recognizing city efforts to streamline processes and enter creative community partnerships around Grande Prairie.

Welcoming Week

Mayor Jackie Clayton proclaimed September 12 to 21 Welcoming Week in Grande Prairie. 
Welcoming Week is an annual campaign and celebration to showcase the movement of communities striving to be more welcoming places for all. 

City Council highlights for the meeting held August 25, 2025

Delegations 

Ken Drysdale presented an update to Council on the Maska Medical Centre and provided them with a ceremonial shovel from the groundbreaking as a token of appreciation for their leadership and contribution to the project.

Edward Peterson presented to Council on behalf of the Bear Creek Village Condo Association regarding maintenance of the creek valley.

Mamisa Robinson requested permission from Council to have the Grande Prairie Fire Department participate in a short educational movie.

City Council highlights for the meeting held July 28, 2025

Delegations

Sadie Macklin presented to Council with a proposal to encourage increased ridership on GP Transit. Council directed Administration to bring a report back to the appropriate Standing Committee regarding potential free transit days and a public awareness campaign.

Theresa McNeil presented to Council about fluoride. Jody Dryer presented to Council to discuss engagement strategies for the City. Council received both delegation reports for information.

Delegations

Helping Hands Society presented to Council with a mid-year update on the progress and accomplishments working with the City to support a coordinated approach to food security. Council accepted the information as presented. 

The Special Olympics Alberta Summer Games presented to Council highlighting the weekend of events that took place July 11 to 13. Grande Prairie athletes won a total of 35 medals at the Games. Council accepted the information as presented.

I am honoured to welcome athletes, coaches, families and supporters from across Alberta to Grande Prairie for the 2025 Special Olympics Alberta Summer Games, taking place from July 11 to 13.

This exciting event celebrates not only athletic achievement, but the spirit of inclusion, determination and community that the Special Olympics movement embodies. Grande Prairie is proud to host the Games and provide a stage where every athlete is encouraged, supported and celebrated.
