Fire Prevention

The role of Fire Prevention is to keep the citizens and employees of Grande Prairie safe through education and enforcement of fire safety practices.

The Grande Prairie Fire Department's Fire Prevention Branch is dedicated to ensuring the safety of our community's residents and employees by proactively minimizing the risk of fire. Through a comprehensive strategy of public education, rigorous inspections and detailed investigations, we strive to protect lives, property and the environment.

Fire Safety for the Whole Family 

Keeping your family safe is a team effort, and learning about fire safety can be an engaging activity for everyone. By using fun, interactive tools, you can instill life-saving habits and empower your entire family with the knowledge to prevent fires and stay safe.

A great place to start is with the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) beloved mascot, Sparky the Fire Dog®.  Sparky.org offers plenty of resources designed for all ages.

School Tours

Schools, Clubs, and Organizations are welcome to inquire about booking a tour of one of our fire halls. During the tour, groups will have the opportunity to learn about Fire Safety and view department vehicles that firefighters use to keep our Community Safe.

Fire Safety Plans

A fire safety plan establishes minimum requirements that will provide a reasonable degree of life safety from fire and similar emergencies. Plans must comply with the national fire code - Alberta edition, national building code - Alberta edition, and other applicable laws and regulations.
