Here are the highlights from the City Council meeting held on August 26, 2019:

Council Endorses Mayor Given Involvement with AUMA

City Council endorsed Mayor Given to run for a second term as a Board Director for the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association. The position provides the opportunity for the Mayor to sit on a number of panels and committees such as the Power and Natural Gas Consumers Panel, ALERT Civilian Advisory Committee, Joint Operating Committee, and the Municipal Governance Standing Committee.

Here are the highlights from the City Council meeting held on August 12, 2019:

2019 Tax Sale

Council approved a list of properties prepared by the Assessment and Taxation department for the 2019 Property Tax Sale.

The auction is taking place on Friday, November 29 starting at 9:00 a.m. in the North Conference Room at City Hall.

Council Discretionary Spending

Council received Procedure 100.1- Guidelines for Council Event Attendance for information.

Accessible Transportation Service to be Transferred to City on September 1, 2019

The City of Grande Prairie and Disabled Transportation Society (DTS) are pleased to announce that the service model for accessible transportation in Grande Prairie and region will be transferred to the City of Grande Prairie effective September 1, 2019.

The City will assume operation of disabled transportation services under the City’s current Transit Services operations. The transition comes in recognition of the important role accessible transportation plays in building a community fit for all residents.

Long-Term Economic Development Strategic Plan

City Council approved the long-term economic development strategic plan as presented. The plan outlines an economic development strategy for the City to follow for the next 20 years. 

Disabled Transportation Society Funding

Council approved the continuation of funding for the Disabled Transportation Society to September 1, 2019.

2020 Budget

City Council has directed administration to prepare the 2020 budget with a tax increase that does not exceed, plus or minus, 1% of the best estimation of inflation.

Administration was also directed to bring to budget deliberations an itemized list of adjustments and associated service level impacts that are necessary in order to meet Council’s budget direction using the 2019 budget actuals along with the forecasted 2020 budget.

Celebrate Municipal Government Day with the City of Grande Prairie

All members of the community are invited to join the City of Grande Prairie on Thursday, June 27 for an afternoon of free, fun-filled celebrations at Municipal Government Day as we highlight all the municipality has to offer and give back to the community.

The event takes place at Revolution Place rain or shine from 4:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.

A wide variety of indoor and outdoor activities are being featured at the event to provide entertainment for all ages including:

Update: City and Disabled Transportation Society Board to Meet Thursday

The City of Grande Prairie is working with the Disabled Transportation Society to ensure accessible transportation services remain in our community and the region. Representatives from the City of Grande Prairie and Disabled Transportation Services board members are meeting Thursday to discuss all potential options to move forward.

The City’s focus right now is on gaining an understanding of client needs to know what is required to support accessible transportation services in our community

The City of Grande Prairie is committed to supporting modes of accessible transportation in our community and the region.

Our main focus is always on the users of the service. We want to ensure first priority routes that meet vital needs such as medical appointments, education and employment continue.

We also appreciate the need for service above basic needs, so all users have the opportunity to visit friends and family, volunteer in the community, and participate in other social activities for a healthy quality of life.
