The City of Grande Prairie and Disabled Transportation Society (DTS) are pleased to announce that the service model for accessible transportation in Grande Prairie and region will be transferred to the City of Grande Prairie effective September 1, 2019.

The City will assume operation of disabled transportation services under the City’s current Transit Services operations. The transition comes in recognition of the important role accessible transportation plays in building a community fit for all residents.

“Accessible transportation services are critical for our clients to maintain their quality of life,” said Karen Bainbridge, Disabled Transportation Society board member. “We are pleased the City has agreed to continue to support the important work of helping our clients get to and from work, medical appointments, and recreation activities.”

“Over the years, the Disabled Transportation Society has provided a key service for many residents. Both the Disabled Transportation Society and the City have worked together to keep the service available to our region and reach a positive agreement,” said Bill Given, Mayor of the City of Grande Prairie. “Transferring the responsibility of accessible transportation to the City provides a sustainable solution for our community.”

Throughout the transition, no disruptions in service are expected. Further details on the transition process for clients will be announced in August.

The City of Grande Prairie and Disabled Transportation Society are both committed to working together during the transition period to ensure seamless continuation of accessible transportation services in the community.
