City Council Highlights for February 10, 2020

Delegations

Residents presented as delegates to discuss the ride-for-hire bylaw.

Representatives of the Avondale Parent Council presented as delegates regarding crosswalk safety.

Request for Transportation System Levy Reserve Funding- 132 Avenue Pedestrian Network Construction

Council allocated $162,000.00 of the Transportation System Levy Reserve to fund the installation of an asphalt pedestrian pathway from 108 Street to 104A Street. This trail will improve pedestrian access and improve connectivity.

Public Member Appointments

Council made the following public member appointments:

• Lynne Coulter, Bernd Manz, and Greg Scerbak to the Complaint Adjudication Committee for a term from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022.

• Helen Rice and Greg Scerbak to the Council Remuneration Review Committee for a term ending December 31, 2020.

• Linda Murphy to the Assessment Review Board for a term from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022.

Here are the highlights from the City Council meeting held on December 2, 2019:

Delegations

The County of Grande Prairie attended in regards to 2019 payment as part of the revenue sharing agreement between the City and the County.

The Grande Prairie and District Pipes and Drums presented to thank the City for the granting support they received for the World Pipe Band Championships which they participated in earlier this year in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Grande Prairie Catholic School Board presented regarding traffic safety along 132 Avenue.

Santa Parade and Official City Tree Lighting Takes Place on Sunday, December 1

The Christmas spirit will take over the streets of Grande Prairie as the Santa Parade and Christmas Tree Lighting take place downtown on Sunday, December 1.

Santa Parade

The annual Santa Parade starts at 4:00 p.m. on 100 Avenue and 102 Street.

The parade route travels east to 100 Street and south to 99 Avenue, ending at Revolution Place.

City Council Highlights for November 4, 2019

Here are the highlights from the City Council meeting held on November 4, 2019:

Delegations

The Grande Prairie Regional College Students’ Association presented to Council on student priorities involving the City.

Rob Petron from the Grande Prairie Petroleum Association presented as a delegate to give an update on the oil and gas industry.

Marie Renee Charbonneau presented an update on the Veterans Memorial Gardens. The presentation is being directed to the appropriate standing committee for further consideration.

Council Meeting Calendar and Member Appointments 2019-2020

City Council approved the rotating Deputy Mayor Schedule, Council committee member appointments, as well as the Council meeting calendar for the remainder of 2019 and 2020.

 

International Association of Fire Fighters Collective Agreement

Council approved the terms of the collective agreement with the IAFF retroactive to January 1, 2018 for a two-year term.
