Peace Country Wolves Athletics re: Improvements to the Legion Field. Council directed administration to investigate the steps needed to bring the Legion Field up to ASAA standards and bring a recommendation to fall budget deliberations.

The Downtown Association requested funding support from Council to assist in the marketing and communication to increase traffic in the City Centre during downtown construction. Council is funding this request with $20,000 from the Downtown Communications budget to support marketing efforts.
Mayor Clayton made two proclamations in today’s Council Meeting:
City Council approved a Development Permit (PL220208) for the construction of an Emergency Shelter.

Lois Duke presented on the Grande Gathering Gala being presented by the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre.
Council directed Administration to work with the event organizers to find a suitable location for an honorary one-year street naming dedication in support of the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre.
Alberta Municipalities Resolution - Disparity in Electricity Distribution and Transmission Rates
Dr. Brian Muir from Alberta Health Services presented an update on local healthcare to City Council, who received the report for information.
Randy Arsenault from the Canadian Mental Health Association Presented to City Council to request the transfer of property located at 7202-99A Street & 7204-99A Street be transferred to the CMHA to increase social housing units in the community. Council directed the request to the appropriate standing committee for further discussion.
Today we recognize the National Day of Awareness and Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit People.
It is a day for reflection and awareness of the many lives lost due to colonial, gender-based violence and the impacts it has on the individual and community levels.
Today is also a day for action, as we each have a role to play in ensuring all our community members are guaranteed a life of peace, safety and basic human rights.

Mayor Clayton proclaimed May 1-2 Youth Week in Grande Prairie to express appreciation for youth and their active participation in our community.
Delegations
Rhonda Side updated Council on the Maskwa Medical Center business plan and progress with Alberta Health.
Council approved the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan at the City Council meeting held on May 2, 2022.
The Strategic Plan guides Council and City Administration’s decisions over the course of the Council term.
Council’s overarching priority in the plan is Quality of Life. Focus is on ensuring Grande Prairie remains a place where all current and future residents “want to live, learn, work and play.”

Nancy Rosendale presented related to public notice regarding applications for business development permits in restricted residential areas.
James Fraser presented an idea to have an elder from Kelly Lake set up a “healing tent” to speak to issues of hurt and impact and reduce RCMP intervention.
The St. Lawrence Centre presented requesting a letter of support for their funding request to the provincial government.
