2021 Annual Report Highlights Released

The City of Grande Prairie’s 2021 Annual Report: Highlights is available now.

The Annual Report: Highlights document showcases major milestones, achievements and accomplishments from the City over the course of 2021 to demonstrate the municipality’s dedication and commitment to the community.

Annual reports are published each year as part of the City’s ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in service of the community.

City Council Highlights for March 21, 2022

Proclamation

Mayor Jackie Clayton begins the meeting by proclaiming March 21 as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

The proclamation demonstrates the City’s belief that equal opportunity and equitable treatment should exist for all people.

The City further believes that every resident of the City of Grande Prairie has the right to realize their potential regardless of race, colour, cultural or ethnic origin.

City Council Highlights for March 7, 2022

For the meeting held March 7, 2022:

Delegations

Grande Spirit Foundation presented seeking continued support for the new senior self contained apartments in Spirit River.

The new Grande Prairie Climbing Association introduced themselves to Council. They are a local, grassroots, non-profit aimed at bringing high quality climbing opportunities to the city.

2022 BIA Budget Review

Council approved the 2022 Business Improvement Area (BIA) budget.

Delegations

Members of the Peace Library System presented to the new Council on their organization and its relationship with Grande Prairie Public Library.

The director of the Grande Prairie Public Library introduced themselves to the new Council and provided an organizational update, including collaborations with the Peace Library System.

Daryl Hewko presented to Council regarding COVID-19 response.

Raphael Bohlmann presented regarding community safety and wellbeing along 68th Avenue.

The County of Grande Prairie and City of Grande Prairie Councils come to an agreement on Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework

Today, the Councils of the County of Grande Prairie and the City of Grande Prairie adopted a new Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework (ICF), which identifies the relationship between the two municipalities in providing shared services to residents and ratepayers. The modernized Municipal Government Act (MGA) requires bordering municipalities to develop an ICF to facilitate and encourage cooperation and cost sharing ensuring efficient services are provided to residents.

Grande Prairie City Council Accepts Resignation of City Manager

Grande Prairie City Council has accepted the resignation of City Manager, Horacio Galanti from his position as Chief Administrative Officer.

City Council thanks him for his years of service and leadership to the City of Grande Prairie. His work has been valuable in improving the services offered to the City of Grande Prairie residents.

Community Services Director, Arlen Miller will fill the role of Acting City Manager. Council is confident Mr. Miller’s wealth of municipal and leadership experience will serve the organization in this critical role.

Daryl Hewko presented to Council regarding the current provincial Public Health Order.

Keith Moore presented to City Council regarding neighbourhood concerns and Council referred the matter to the City’s Infrastructure and Economic Development Standing Committee

Public Member Appointments

City Council approved the following appointments to the Community Knowledge Campus Advisory Committee for a three-year term:

City Council Identifies 2022 Advocacy Priorities

Grande Prairie City Council identified five key areas of focus for their 2022 Advocacy Priorities to maintain influence on decisions that impact our community, as well as continue to foster relationships with local, provincial, and federal governments.

The goal of the priorities is to continue to improve Grande Prairie and the services offered to our residents and the region, create long-term sustainability in the economy, and find solutions for concerns across a variety of areas.
