Today we recognize the National Day of Awareness and Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit People.

It is a day for reflection and awareness of the many lives lost due to colonial, gender-based violence and the impacts it has on the individual and community levels.

Today is also a day for action, as we each have a role to play in ensuring all our community members are guaranteed a life of peace, safety and basic human rights.

We are thankful for our many community partners who work endlessly to support this mission, and the Government of Canada's calls to justice as part of the 2019 Final Report on the Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.

May we soon see a future of peace and equality for all.

- Mayor Jackie Clayton
