Proclamations

Mayor Clayton made two proclamations in today’s Council Meeting:

  • Pride Month: to recognize the importance of an equal and free community
  • Recreation and Parks Month: to recognize the value and benefit that recreation and parks provides to the community.

Development Permit for Emergency Shelter

City Council approved a Development Permit (PL220208) for the construction of an Emergency Shelter.

In order to approve the permit, Council waived section 60.1 of the Land Use Bylaw C-1260 in recognition of the external delays in the Land Title process.

City Council also deferred to the appropriate standing committee a discussion regarding section 60.1 of the Land Use Bylaw C-1260 to explore opportunities to expedite the Development Permit Process.

Coordinated Care Campus Advisory Committee

City Council appointed Debra Jones, Joseph Redhead, Krystal Smith, Lionel Frey, Nicole Simoneau, Elmer Spilchen, and Brian John to the new Coordinated Care Campus Advisory Committee for a term ending December 31, 2023.

The Committee exists to provide a connection between the Coordinated Care Campus and the community, with members providing advice and feedback on matters related to the facility.

Wapiti Recreation & Trail Management Advisory Committee

City Council appointed Mayor Clayton and Councillor Bressey to the Wapiti Recreation & Trail Management Advisory Committee.

Regional Recreation Committee Coordinator Position

City Council approved and funded the renewal of the Regional Recreation Coordinator position for 2023. The position supports the Grande Prairie Regional Recreation Committee.

Registration of City Crests

City Council directed administration to submit an application to the Canadian Heraldic Authority for the registration of current City of Grande Prairie emblems including the:

  • City Crest
  • City Flag
  • Enforcement Services Crest
  • Fire Department Crest.

Snow and Ice Control Service Review and Public Consultation

City Council accepted the Snow and Ice Control Internal Service Review for information and directed administration to begin public consultation about adjustments to the snow and ice control service.

Council also directed administration to include possible options for snow and ice control service reductions and potential costs in the report to allow for fulsome council debate in the future.

Correspondence – Electricity and Gas Distribution Fees

The Grande Prairie and Area Chamber of Commerce wrote a letter to the City supporting its advocacy efforts to reduce distribution costs for electricity and natural gas.

The letter also includes the Chamber’s advocacy efforts on the same topic, including a resolution recently passed at the Alberta Chambers of Commerce Annual General Meeting.
