City ends residential snow clearing rotation early; shifts focus to snowmelt management

The City of Grande Prairie advises residents that the current residential snow clearing rotation is concluding effective end of day Monday, March 30.

Due to forecasted warmer temperatures, crews have reassessed conditions and will be shifting efforts toward snowmelt management and snow storage removal to support drainage across the community. This change allows for more effective use of heavy equipment and resources as spring conditions develop.

City reinstates parking bans, begins residential snow clearing after snowfall

(Grande Prairie, Alta. – March 25, 2026) – The City of Grande Prairie is reinstating parking bans and beginning residential snow clearing starting at 7 a.m. on Thursday, March 26 following recent snowfall.

The ban restricts parking on permanent snow routes (priority 1 and 2 routes) from Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. until the ban is lifted. Details on what defines priority 1 and 2 roads can be found at cityofgp.com/snow.

Parking restrictions lifted on Priority Snow Routes

As of March 12, at 2 p.m., the parking ban on permanent snow routes, including Priority 1 and Priority 2 roads, has been lifted.

The parking ban was put in place on Wednesday, February 18 at 7 a.m. to support snow clearing operations during periods of significant snow and ice accumulation. With all windrows now cleared from Priority 1 and Priority 2 routes, parking restrictions are no longer required on these roads.

Next round of residential snow clearing begins March 6

The City of Grande Prairie has declared a new two-week round of residential snow clearing beginning Friday, March 6.

This is the third rotation of 2026, and the fourth of the winter season.

The newly declared round begins with Friday Week A neighbourhoods, then continues through next week until all Week A areas are complete. Week B neighbourhoods begin Friday, March 13, then continue into the following week until the rotation is complete.

GP Grows introduces Early Sprouts free seed program for early spring planting

A small seed can be the start of something bigger. Residents are invited to get a jump on spring planting with GP Grows: Early Sprouts, a free seed program at Muskoseepi Park that makes it easy to start growing at home.

From March 2 to 8, residents can drop by the Ernie Radbourne Pavilion in Muskoseepi Park to pick up free seed packs for early indoor planting. The seed bank is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, and noon to 6 p.m. on weekends.

Winter parking ban begins Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 7 a.m.; residential snow clearing starts Thursday, Feb. 19

(Grande Prairie, Alta. – February 17, 2026) – A winter parking ban will take effect Wednesday, February 18 at 7 a.m. on permanent snow routes. Parking is restricted on Priority 1 and Priority 2 roads from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Friday, until the ban is lifted.

These routes include main roads, transit corridors and roads frequently used by emergency services. Moving vehicles off the street during a parking ban allows crews to clear snow curb to curb, prevent hard-packed snow buildup and maintain safe, reliable travel across the city.

Parking restrictions lifted on Priority Snow Routes

As of January 22 at 3:30 p.m., the parking ban on permanent snow routes, including Priority 1 and Priority 2 roads, has been lifted.

The parking ban was put in place on Monday, December 8 at 11 a.m. to support snow clearing operations during periods of significant snow and ice accumulation. With all windrows now cleared from Priority 1 and Priority 2 routes, parking restrictions are no longer required on these roads.

Temporary residential parking restrictions in place to support snow clearing on New Year’s Day

Residential snow clearing will continue as scheduled on New Year’s Day, with no changes to the two-week rotation or assigned clearing days.

On Thursday, January 1, crews will be completing Week A residential snow clearing in Kensington, Mission Heights, O’Brien Lake and Stone Ridge.

Residents in these neighbourhoods are asked to remove vehicles from residential roadways before 8 a.m. and keep streets clear until 5 p.m. to support effective snow clearing. Streets with a high number of parked vehicles may not be able to be fully cleared.
