Project overview - Grande Prairie’s new Multisport Facility at Trader Ridge
The City is moving forward with the development of an indoor multisport facility at Trader Ridge. This air-supported structure will provide year-round access to a FIFA regulation-size field for various sports, including: soccer, football and rugby, plus added flexibility for several field configurations and an indoor track.

The project reflects the Council’s commitment to enhancing recreational opportunities and supporting local sports development, while also demonstrating Council’s dedication to fostering an enhanced quality of life and promoting active lifestyles for residents of all ages.
Why this facility, site and structure format?
The need for an indoor multisport facility was identified following the demolition of the former Leisure Centre, which left a gap in indoor field space. Community engagement sessions in 2023 confirmed strong public support for a new facility that addressed the growing demand for year-round sports.
Through site analysis and financial planning, Trader Ridge was selected as the ideal location. This decision was based on cost-effectiveness, accessibility and the ability to minimize neighbourhood disruptions.

An air-supported structure was chosen due to its efficient use of construction materials, minimizing building expenses while offering a sustainable solution.
Beyond meeting local demand, the facility is also expected to attract regional and provincial competitions, fostering economic growth through sport.
