Helping Hands Society presented to Council with a mid-year update on the progress and accomplishments working with the City to support a coordinated approach to food security. Council accepted the information as presented. 

The Special Olympics Alberta Summer Games presented to Council highlighting the weekend of events that took place July 11 to 13. Grande Prairie athletes won a total of 35 medals at the Games. Council accepted the information as presented.

Nitehawk Funding Agreement

Council approved in principle the Four-Party Funding Agreement for the Grande Prairie Ski Club (operating as Nitehawk Year-Round Adventure Park) and directed Administration to execute the Funding Agreement subject to the satisfaction of the City Solicitor and the City Manager.

Youth Advisory Council 2024 – 2025 Annual Term Report

Council received the Youth Advisory Council 2024 – 2025 Annual Term Report as information. This year’s highlights include collaborative leadership in action, building community connections and connecting with City leaders. 

SureCharge EV Charging Station Lease Term Extension

Council approved an option to lease agreement term extension from four (4) years to ten (10) years, between the City of Grande Prairie and SureCharge Corp. The lease enables the Centre 2000 EV charging station project to meet NRCan funding eligibility. 

Urban Forest Strategy

Council approved the Urban Forest Strategy, as presented, providing clear direction for managing, protecting & growing the city’s urban forest. The vision is to have a beautiful, vibrant & health urban forest that enhances the well-being & quality of life for generations. 

Council directed Administration to bring back a report with a strategy to protect trees on private lands. 

Definition of a “Peace Officer” Amending Bylaw

Council give three readings to Bylaw C-1489, being the Definition of Peace Officer Amending Bylaw. The proposed bylaw makes the following key changes across 19 City bylaws:

  1. Definition of “Peace Officer”: a single, consistent definition of "Peace Officer": “Peace Officer” means a sworn member of the Grande Prairie Police Service, a sworn member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, a bylaw enforcement officer of the City or a community peace officer of the City”. 
  2. Gender Neutral Language: gendered pronouns such as "his", "he", and "him" are replaced with neutral terms like "their", "the person", or a specific title, aligning the bylaws with modern drafting standards. 
  3. General Appeal Board: the provisions within the five bylaws related to requesting an appeal are amended to clarify that such appeals shall be submitted in accordance with the General Appeal Board Bylaw.                                                                                       

Grande Prairie Cricket Association  

Council directed Administration to maintain the Northridge Cricket Pitch as a Youth Cricket Pitch, with notification to the neighbourhood, and that a batting cage must be approved by Council before being installed.
