I am honoured to welcome athletes, coaches, families and supporters from across Alberta to Grande Prairie for the 2025 Special Olympics Alberta Summer Games, taking place from July 11 to 13.

This exciting event celebrates not only athletic achievement, but the spirit of inclusion, determination and community that the Special Olympics movement embodies. Grande Prairie is proud to host the Games and provide a stage where every athlete is encouraged, supported and celebrated.

Our community is known for its strong volunteer spirit and welcoming hospitality, and we look forward to sharing that with the hundreds of participants and guests joining us this weekend. From our recreation facilities to our local businesses, you’ll find a city ready to cheer you on.

Thank you to the athletes, coaches, volunteers, sponsors and the Games Organizing Committee whose hard work has brought the Games to life. Your dedication is helping create memories that will last long after the medals are handed out.

I encourage residents and visitors alike to take in the action and show your support by attending, the opening ceremonies and all sport events are free for spectators.
