Delegations

Community Futures Grande Prairie presented an update about their mandate, services and programs to Council.

The Canadian International Air Races Society (CIAR) requested approval from the City of Grande Prairie and Grande Prairie Airport Authority to host and organize the Canadian Championship Air Race at the Grande Prairie Airport in July 2022.

Mary Dumais presented to Council regarding Designated Driving Services in the city.

Delegations

  • A community member presented to City Council regarding the City’s Employee Proof of Vaccination and Rapid Testing Policy. Council received the presentation for information.
  • The Grande Prairie Residential Society presented to City Council about a potential transfer of land ownership at 11010 - 107A Avenue to the Society. Council directed administration to bring to the appropriate standing committee a report outlining financial impacts and recommendations.

Budget 2022 Focused on Efficient Operations for a Sustainable Future

Grande Prairie City Council endorsed a 1.16% tax increase for the 2022 City budget with a focus on efficient operations to support a sustainable future.

The budget prioritizes existing infrastructure and focuses on filling infrastructure gaps in the community while maintaining a moderate tax increase for residents. It was developed with a focus on the future to ensure the City is well-positioned to continue to provide and sustain for the needs of our growing community as development continues.

Mayor Statement on Passing of Helen Rice

On behalf of City Council, I would like to express our deepest condolences to the family, friends and all the many lives that have been touched by former City Councillor Helen Rice as the community mourns her passing.

Helen Rice is well known as being a remarkable community leader throughout her time in Grande Prairie, including a nearly 40-year tenure on City Council. Throughout this time, Rice made an indelible impact on all levels of government, including through appointments to the Canadian Human Rights Commission and Alberta Urban Municipalities Association.

Unofficial City Council Election Results

All polling stations in Grande Prairie have reported their results for the 2021 Municipal Election and the City of Grande Prairie is pleased to announce the unofficial results.

Jackie Clayton is elected to the position of Mayor, making her the first woman to be elected by Grande Prairie residents into the position of Mayor.

Proclamations

Mayor Clayton declared September 20 – 26th, 2021 as "Rail Safety Week " in the City of Grande Prairie, as requested by CN in support of its ongoing efforts to raise awareness, save lives and prevent injuries in communities, including our municipality.

Mayor Clayton declared October 17- 23, 2021 as “Small Business Week” in the City of Grande Prairie to honour and support small business owners and employees, and the enormous contribution they make to the success of our regional economy.

City of Grande Prairie to Mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

The City of Grande Prairie commemorates the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a permanent Statutory Holiday for all City staff on September 30.

The decision comes as an additional step to advance reconciliation efforts with the Indigenous community and honour their legacy and positive impact in our community. The day also serves as a time to remember and reflect on the harm caused to the Indigenous community throughout Canada’s history.
