Grande Prairie City Council identified five key areas of focus for their 2022 Advocacy Priorities to maintain influence on decisions that impact our community, as well as continue to foster relationships with local, provincial, and federal governments.
The goal of the priorities is to continue to improve Grande Prairie and the services offered to our residents and the region, create long-term sustainability in the economy, and find solutions for concerns across a variety of areas.
“Today, Council approved the 2022 Advocacy Priorities that reflect current and future challenges within our community,” said Jackie Clayton, Grande Prairie Mayor. “It is our goal to use these over the next year to drive ongoing conversations with other government bodies to ensure a positive and bright future for Grande Prairie and those who call it home.”
The 2022 Advocacy Priorities are:
- Addressing High Electricity and Natural Gas Distribution Costs
- Attraction and Retention of Health Care Professionals
- Local Government Funding Framework
- Provincial Support for Industrial Attraction programs
- Highway 40X – Southwest Ring Road
In addition, City Council identified several other advocacy initiatives that are areas of interest:
- Seniors Home Care
- Provincial Police Force
- Community-Based Health Supports for Vulnerable Population
- Rent Subsidy Funding
- Homelessness Supports
- County upgrades RR63 (116 Street – City limits to correction line)
- Local Court of Queen’s Bench Justices
- Reduced carbon pricing for facilities using combined heat and power technology or similar
- Regional sharing of linear/machinery and equipment property taxes
