100 Avenue and 100 Street Intersection Opening August 10

The intersection of 100 Avenue and 100 Street is reopening to traffic Tuesday, August 10 as construction on the Downtown Rehabilitation and Streetscapes Project moves east.

The opening of the intersection is a significant milestone for the project, as it indicates the completion of underground utility installation on the west end of the project.

The opening was initially anticipated to occur on August 3, however rainfall in mid-July resulted slight delays on the project

Concrete Raising Program Underway

Starting July 27, the City of Grande Prairie’s mudjacking project is underway in the Cobblestone, Pinnacle Ridge, O’Brien Lake, and Westpointe neighbourhoods.

Mudjacking involves concrete lifting and levelling of city sidewalks, curb, and gutters in front of residences. The work takes approximately 1-3 hours at each location; sidewalks will be unavailable while repairs are being done.

100 Street Construction from 128 Avenue to Northern City Limits Starts Monday

On Monday, July 26, construction begins on 100 Street from south of the 128 Avenue intersection to the northern city limits in both north and southbound lanes.

Construction includes the repair and replacement of underground infrastructure, including a storm lead and catch basins. This work is followed by geometric upgrades at the 100 Street and 132 Avenue intersection, including the installation of three dedicated right turn lanes and the replacement of traffic signals.

Other roadway upgrades consist of milling and paving, line painting, grading and landscaping.

Temporary Closure of 99 Street Between 101 Avenue and 100 Avenue

99 Street will be closed to vehicle traffic between 101 Avenue and 100 Avenue from Friday, July 23 to Monday, July 26.

The closure is required to allow crews to complete storm line work on 99 Street and reconnect catch basins to the stormwater drainage system in the alleyways north of 100 Avenue. 99 Street is scheduled to reopen to all traffic by Tuesday, July 27.

A pedestrian detour continues to be in place.

Work on the Downtown Rehabilitation Project is progressing, and other existing closures remain in place.

Maskwôtêh Park Pedestrian Bridge Construction Underway

Construction has begun on the Maskwôtêh Park pedestrian bridge.

This week, crews began preparing land east of the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital for the new bridge. Once built, the pedestrian bridge will connect the park to the new hospital grounds and nearby trails.

The 45-metre bridge is designed with proximity to the regional hospital in mind and will be built to carry the weight of emergency vehicles weighing up to 8,159 kg.

100 Avenue and 100 Street Intersection Closed for July for Downtown Upgrades

The intersection of 100 Avenue and 100 Street is closed to vehicle traffic beginning July 1, to accommodate continued construction on the Downtown Rehabilitation and Streetscapes Project.

The closure is needed for the replacement of all remaining underground infrastructure, including storm, sanitary, and water lines. Above ground infrastructure will also be replaced, including roadways, concrete curb and gutter, and sidewalks.

100 Avenue between 100 Street to west of 98 Street remains closed to vehicle traffic.

Bridge Maintenance Throughout Muskoseepi Park Trails Starts Monday

Monday, June 28, JMS Construction will begin maintenance work on 13 pedestrian bridges within the Muskoseepi Park, along the trail system.

The Bridge Repair and Maintenance Program is the City’s proactive approach for identifying and performing maintenance activities to prevent minor structural defects from worsening and in turn extending the life of the bridges.

100 Avenue Closure between 99 Street and 98 Street Starts Friday

The Downtown Rehabilitation and Streetscape project is progressing and moving east this weekend.

100 Avenue between 99 Street and 98 Street is closing to parking starting Friday, June 18 and will be closed to traffic starting Saturday, June 19. These closures will be in place for the remainder of the construction season as they are required for the contractor to safely carryout roadway and sidewalk removals and extend the work zone.

Construction on 108 Street between 100 Avenue and the Bear Creek Bridges Begins Friday

Friday, June 18, construction begins on 108 Street between 100 Avenue and the Bear Creek bridges. Crews will start north of the 108 Street and 100 Avenue intersection and will then make their way north, working on both north and southbound lanes.

Construction activities include an asphalt milling and overlay, spot concrete work, catch basin and manhole repairs, partial storm lead replacements and thermo-plastic line painting.

Traffic Signal Inspections Throughout the City Begin June 15

Starting Tuesday, June 15, the City of Grande Prairie’s 2021 Traffic Signal Program is getting underway throughout the city.

Inspections are being conducted at 14 intersections throughout Grande Prairie until June 19. A total of 63 traffic signal poles will be inspected to ensure they are in good working condition and continue to meet City standards.

To complete the inspections safely traffic will periodically be down to single lane, alternating traffic. Drivers are reminded to watch for workers in all construction areas and to pay attention to all posted signage.
