103 Avenue Construction West of 102 Street Starts Today

On Friday, June 11, 103 Avenue from 102 Street west to the cul-de-sac will undergo a full road reconstruction and slope repair.

The roadwork includes a full reconstruction of the roadway, sidewalks, and parking lot. The slope leading into Muskoseepi Park will be repaired and a new paved path into the park installed. The main sanitary line will be replaced, and some landscaping work will also be done.

103 Avenue will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic and only residents accessing their homes will be given access.

Road Construction in Creekside and College Park Starts Next Week

The Road Rehabilitation Program continues in Creekside starting June 15, and in College Park starting June 18.

Starting Tuesday, June 15, crews will be completing an asphalt overlay on 92 Street between 92 Avenue and the Woody Channel. Some regrading of the existing storm swale along 92 Street will also take place to improve storm drainage in the area.

Asphalt overlay is a method used to prolong the current roadway showing cracks and potholes, while still not being damaged enough to warrant a full road reconstruction.

100 Street and 84 Avenue Intersection Closed Saturday, June 12

On Saturday, June 12, the intersection of 100 Street and 84 Avenue will be closed for approximately 6 hours to accommodate paving as part of the City’s road rehabilitation program.

The closure is anticipated to start at 6:00am to avoid major traffic disruptions and be reopened by 12:00pm.

North and southbound vehicle flow will be maintained through single lane alternating traffic. Eastbound traffic will be detoured south, while westbound traffic will be detoured north. The 84 Avenue truck route between Resources Road and 108 Street will be closed for the day.

108 Avenue and 96 Street Intersection Closed Starting Tuesday

Update: July 2, 2021

The installation of upgraded traffic signal poles at the intersection of 108 Avenue and 96 Street has been moved to August due to a supply shortage of the steel poles. The City expects to receive the material in mid-August, at which time it will be installed.

Geometric upgrades at the site have been completed, and the roadway is open to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

The City of Grande Prairie’s 2021 Intersection Improvements Program will make its way to the 108 Avenue and 96 Street intersection on Tuesday, June 8.

Muskoseepi Park Spillway and Dam Inspections Occur on June 8

On Monday, June 7, water levels in the Muskoseepi Park reservoir will be significantly lowered to accommodate safe inspections of the spillway structure scheduled for Tuesday, June 8, as part of the City’s Bear River Control Structure Spillway Assessment and Study.

To obtain full access to the spillway structure, crews will pump water from below the spillway and from the reservoir to detour it downstream, where water flows will be maintained as part of the City’s approved environmental permits to conduct the inspection.

T.J. Gorman Park, Annie Higbee Park and Kyra Paull Park Playground Structures Being Replaced

The City of Grande Prairie is investing in upgraded recreation amenities in neighbourhoods by replacing playground equipment, park furnishings, and protective surfaces at three playgrounds.

The T.J. Gorman, Annie Higbee and Kyra Paull playgrounds will be closed for approximately six-weeks to accommodate the construction.

The new playground equipment is designed for ages 2 to 12 and is intended to increase inclusivity from the previous structure for all playground users. The playgrounds will also feature a wood chip surface instead of sand.

Capital Construction Continues with Roadwork, Sidewalk Improvements, and Trail Reconstruction

The City of Grande Prairie continues to enhance and invest in our community, with more capital projects underway including the sidewalk repair and replacement program, road overlays, and trail reconstruction.

Willow Drive Road Overlay in Cobblestone

On Monday, May 31, the City’s Road Rehabilitation program begins in the Cobblestone neighbourhood. Road overlay will take place on Willow Drive between 95 Avenue and 86A Avenue, and on 89 Avenue from Willow Drive to east of 88 Street.

City Embarking on Largest Capital Year on Record

The City of Grande Prairie is embarking on its largest capital construction year on record, with $54.5 million in budgeted improvements to roads, sidewalks, trails, storm lines, bridges, traffic signal repairs, recreation amenities, and more.

As the population of the City expands, fulfilling capital needs serves to enhance the quality of life of Grande Prairie residents through improvement of existing infrastructure and enhancing the community with new amenities and recreation opportunities for years to come.

100 Street Opens, 99 Street at 100 Avenue Scheduled to Close on Wednesday, May 12

The Downtown Rehabilitation Project is progressing on schedule with the intersection of 100 Avenue and 100 Street now open to north, south, and westbound traffic.

The contractor has completed the installation of new underground pipes at the intersection of 100 Avenue and 100 Street, and it is temporarily paved with asphalt until crews return to install the permanent roadway along the entire construction zone later this summer.

Road Overlays and Trail Reconstruction Start May 10

Starting May 10, the City’s capital construction season is scheduled to begin with road and trail overlays throughout the city.

Road overlay work is starting on Pinnacle Drive between 112 Street and 108 Street and will include cold milling, concrete work, storm sewer infrastructure repairs, asphalt overlay, line painting and landscaping.

Sidewalk access will be maintained during construction; however, pedestrians should expect some disruptions.
