2019 Road Rehabilitation Program Continues in Mountview Business Park and College Park

In 2019, the City is investing $9.7 million into road reconstruction projects to extend the life of existing roadways and replace roadways at the end of their life.

These projects are captured under the Road Rehabilitation Program already occurring in sites throughout the City. The program continues in the Mountview Business Park area beginning September 3, 2019 and in the College Park area beginning on September 11, 2019.

New Interactive GP Traffic Planner Map Launched to Highlight Local Construction Projects

The City of Grande Prairie has launched a new interactive GP Traffic Planner Map that provides residents with an improved online experience when seeking information about construction projects within the City.

The new traffic planner map is an upgrade from the previous construction map and provides users with a modern, user-friendly interface, and mobile capabilities. Users can also turn on a current traffic flow overlay to view near real-time traffic information supplied by third party GPS data providers.

The information shown on the interactive map consists of:

City’s Trail Reconstruction Begins in Two Locations

Two asphalt trails are scheduled to be replaced beginning May 13 as part of the 2019 Trail Rehabilitation Program.

The trails to be replaced are located:

  • On the north side of O’Brien Lake
  • West of 91 Street in County Side South

The specified trails will be closed to the public until all work is completed. All construction zones will be signed and barricaded. The estimated construction completion date is June 30, 2019.

Turning Lane Temporarily Closed at 84 Avenue and 116 Street

Beginning Wednesday, May 1, the right turning lane for traffic turning from 84 Avenue onto 116 Street will be closed to accommodate the installation of a water main for the Kensington Development.

A detour is in place for motorists wishing to travel north from 84 Avenue. Vehicles may turn right on 113 Street, left onto 89 Avenue, and then right onto 116 Street.

Minor traffic delays during peak times are anticipated. The lane is expected to open on May 8, 2019.

Grande Prairie Committed to Improving Traffic Safety Since 2014

The City of Grande Prairie is proud to have already incorporated into practice many of the guidelines announced by the Government of Alberta on February 21, 2019.

The City of Grande Prairie has seen proven results on the success of Automated Traffic Enforcement (ATE) and a noticeable change in driver behaviour shown by a reduction in violations. An example of ATE’s success is at the intersection of 100 Street and 132 Avenue Northbound where 1682 violations took place in 2016 compared to just 271 in 2018. 

Storm Line Video Inspections Begin Monday, June 18

Aquatera Utilities will begin cleaning the City's storm system and performing video inspections in the Gateway area on Monday, June 18.

The project boundaries include:

  • 100 Avenue
  • 107 Avenue
  • 111 Street
  • 108 Street

This work is part of the 2018 Storm Line Flushing, Cleaning and Video Inspection Program. By keeping the storm system clean, and assessing the conditions of the current infrastructure, the City is able to better prepare for future capital projects.
