The next three phases of the City’s annual Road Rehabilitation Program are underway.
Phase 2 will see roads milled and repaved in three locations:
- Beginning on July 22, 108 Street between 76 Avenue and 84 Avenue.
- This location will have a concrete pad installed on the left turning lane for northbound traffic at 108 Street and 84 Avenue resulting in the left turning lane being closed to traffic from July 26 to mid-August. During this time, traffic turning west on 84 Avenue is to detour at 89 Avenue. Drivers are reminded to allow extra time during travel as delays at this location are expected during the closure of the turning lane.
- Beginning on July 19, 97 Avenue between 116 Street and 120 Street.
- Already underway, 102 Street between 117 Ave and 124 Avenue
To minimize traffic impact where possible and expedite work on phases 2, crews have been permitted to work overnight as the locations are not near residential areas. For phase 2 some work sites have been permitted to be active overnight between 7 pm to 7 am. The overnight work is expected to minimize traffic disruptions. Short-term closures and limited through traffic should be expected during night operations.
Phase 3 begins on July 22 in the Ivy Lake Estates Area on 104 Avenue between 88 Street and 92 Street.
Phase 4 begins on July 25 in the Mountview Area and occurs on roads 109 Avenue, 110 Avenue, 93 Street, 92-A Street and 92-B Street.
Crews will operate between 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday on phases 3 and 4. Both phases will see a full road rehabilitation which depending on the location, may include: cold milling, asphalt overlay, storm sewer infrastructure repairs, hot mix asphalt placement, concrete work, line painting, and landscaping.
The City and contractor aim to minimize traffic delays throughout the project. It is expected that some locations will be down to one lane alternating traffic at some times. Weather permitting, the roadway upgrades are expected to be complete by the end of September. Residents with specific inquires may call the Citizen Contact Centre at 780-538-0300.
About Road Rehabilitation
Throughout the summer, $9.7 million will be invested in the City’s road network through all phases of the annual road rehabilitation program. The investment helps prolong the life of existing roadways and replace roadways at the end of their life.
