Volunteer at TD Tree Days on September 14

The City of Grande Prairie invites residents to roll up their sleeves on Sunday, September 14 for the TD Tree Days event, planting trees and shrubs to grow and enhance community green space.

The event takes place from 9 a.m. to noon at Ivy Lake and 100 Avenue and is a great way to support the community. 

Volunteers will receive a pair of gardening gloves and a planting demonstration, then participate hands-on in planting trees and shrubs, mulching, placing tree guards and watering. 

Refresh your wardrobe and reduce waste at Drop & Swap October 4

The City of Grande Prairie is hosting the return of Drop & Swap, a free clothing exchange that helps reduce waste, with support from Aquatera Utilities Inc. and Goodwill Industries of Alberta.

At the Drop & Swap, residents can donate clean, good-condition clothing to give it a second life or simply come on event day to shop the community collection for free.

City of Grande Prairie plants 263 trees with support from national funding initiative

The City of Grande Prairie has planted 263 new trees in parks, boulevards and civic spaces to expand the urban canopy and strengthen long-term forest health. The project was made possible through City capital funding and a $125,000 grant funded by the Government of Canada through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ (FCM) Growing Canada’s Community Canopies program.

Lions Park spray park reopens ahead of schedule

The City is pleased to inform residents that the spray park at Lions Park is reopening ahead of schedule on Wednesday, July 30, for the remainder of the summer.

The spray park at Lions Park was originally planned to remain closed throughout construction of the new Jumpstart Inclusive Playground to ensure public safety. With construction now underway, the City was able to re‑evaluate safety parameters and adjust fencing around the site, allowing the spray park to safely reopen for community use while site improvements continue.

Council plants vision for the future with Urban Forest Strategy

With a growing urban canopy already enriching life in Grande Prairie, Council has approved the Urban Forest Strategy to help protect and expand the city’s green spaces for future generations.

The strategy sets a clear long-term vision for the care and enhancement of trees and natural spaces across the city by providing a coordinated framework for planting, maintenance and stewardship while maximizing environmental, social and economic benefits.

The City of Grande Prairie is investing in a series of projects to enhance and beautify public spaces, creating welcoming places for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Approved through the City’s Community Enhancement Funding, the projects aim to improve the look and feel of key areas while also supporting practical needs like stormwater management, accessibility and long-term maintenance. The updates contribute to more attractive and enjoyable public spaces that serve the community well into the future.

Learn, Grow, Repeat – GP Grows: On Tour kicks off in June for budding gardeners

The City of Grande Prairie is bringing back GP Grows: On Tour for another season of informative, drop-in events designed to support local gardeners and green thumbs of all experience levels.

Running from June through September, the series invites residents to explore seasonal topics in gardening and landscaping, guided by knowledgeable Parks staff. Each session runs from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at various locations around the city and offers practical tips, expert insight and time for questions—no registration required.
