City of Grande Prairie begins residential street sweeping operations June 2

The City of Grande Prairie begins residential street sweeping operations on Monday, June 2 to help maintain clean and safe neighbourhood streets.

Residential street sweeping follows the same neighbourhood pattern as the City’s residential snow clearing schedule. Each area is scheduled for sweeping the day before its regular waste collection day during its designated week.

Check before you cut: City clarifies tree responsibilities along boulevards

The City of Grande Prairie reminds residents to confirm their property lines before trimming, planting or removing any trees near their homes.

A strip of City-owned land—known as the boulevard—runs along the front and sometimes the side of most properties. Trees growing in this area are public trees, owned and maintained by the City. Work on these trees, including pruning or removal, should only be carried out by City staff.

Mosquito control operations begin today

The City of Grande Prairie is starting its annual mosquito control operations today, to help reduce mosquito populations and help residents make the most of warm weather.

Work begins in spring and can continue through to September depending on the weather. The program targets mosquito larvae in standing water using a product approved by Health Canada that is designed specifically to control mosquitoes.

Gravel road bans lifted effective Tuesday, May 6

All gravel road bans within the City of Grande Prairie are lifted as of Tuesday, May 6. 

Full 100 per cent axle weights are now permitted on all gravel roads.

The City thanks residents and commuters who followed the seasonal restrictions and helped protect the integrity of the gravel road network during the spring thaw.

City begins annual pest control operations

The City of Grande Prairie begins annual pest control operations in May to support the health of parks, trees and green spaces. 

Operations run from May to October, weather permitting, and focus on controlling noxious weeds, insects and plant diseases. All pest control takes place on City-owned land within municipal boundaries using products registered with Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency. Residents with concerns are encouraged to contact AccessGP by calling 311.

City begins 2025 street sweeping on April 7

The City of Grande Prairie begins its 2025 street sweeping operations on April 7, starting with arterial roads and high-traffic routes.

Crews are clearing debris from roadways, medians, concrete barriers and boulevards. Trail sweeping is also underway.

Sweeping of arterial, collector and transit routes is expected to continue until late May, weather permitting. Once complete, crews will move to secondary roads, followed by residential areas. Residential sweeping is expected to begin in late May and wrap up by the end of June.

Dust suppression applications open for 2025

Residents and business owners with properties next to gravel roads can apply for dust suppression treatment between April 1 and April 25, 2025.

Residents in rural service areas may request dust suppression and control treatment for gravel roads in sections of at least 100 metres.

The application fee is $440 for residential properties and $660 for commercial properties per 100 metres of gravel road.

City updates seasonal road bans to 24 hours

Effective immediately on March 24, 2025, the City of Grande Prairie is updating seasonal weight restrictions on gravel roads within city limits to be in effect 24 hours a day.

Previously in effect from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., the gravel road bans now apply around the clock to better protect road integrity during the spring thaw. All affected gravel roads are limited to 75% axle weight at all times until further notice.
