GPAT riders invited to enjoy the Northern Spirit Lights Show this December

Registered Grande Prairie Accessible Transit (GPAT) riders are invited to enjoy free round-trip rides to the Northern Spirit Lights Show at Evergreen Park this December.

Trips are available on Saturdays and Sundays – December 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, beginning at 6 p.m. Each outing includes a drive through the spectacular light displays, followed by a tour around town to view some of Grande Prairie’s most beautifully decorated homes.

Bookings can be made by calling GPAT dispatch at 780-830-7433.

City providing free transit on Election Day, October 20

The City of Grande Prairie is offering free transit on Election Day, Monday, October 20, to help residents move around the community and polling stations.

Free fares apply to all City transit services, including On-Demand and Late-Night On-Demand for all users, and Grande Prairie Accessible Transit (GPAT) for registered riders. Regular routes and schedules will continue as usual, with no service disruptions.

Free service ensures everyone can travel freely across the city on Election Day while maintaining regular transit operations for all riders.

Free and extended transit available for Bear Creek Folk Festival

The City of Grande Prairie is helping residents and visitors get to one of the region’s biggest music events by offering free evening transit after 6 p.m. and extending its regular fixed-route service hours for the Bear Creek Folk Festival.

The City is proud to contribute through sponsorship funding and enhanced transit service, as the festival welcomes thousands of visitors to experience the vibrant spirit and hospitality of Grande Prairie, while generating over a million dollars in impact to our local economy.

Free rides to Northern Spirit Light Show for GPAT clients this December

The City of Grande Prairie is spreading holiday cheer for registered Grande Prairie Accessible Transit (GPAT) riders this December through a special seasonal initiative.

Registered GPAT customers can enjoy free round-trip rides to the Northern Spirit Lights Show at Evergreen Park on December 7, 8, 14, 15, 21 and 22. Each trip includes a drive through the spectacular light displays followed by a route around town showcasing some of the most beautifully decorated houses, starting at 6 p.m. on the selected evenings.

City hosting transit services open house on October 21

The City of Grande Prairie invites residents to attend a Transit Services open house on October 21, 2024, to share their experiences and feedback regarding Grande Prairie transit.

The event is open to all community members and will take place at Teresa Sargent Hall in the Montrose Cultural Centre (9839 103 Ave, Grande Prairie). Residents are encouraged to drop in between 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. or 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. to speak with City Administration and offer their thoughts on service levels, fare options, safety, amenities and offer suggestions for routes and schedules. 

City completes installation of two new heated bus shelters

City of Grande Prairie Transit has completed the installation of two new heated bus stop shelters at the Transit Hub near Towne Centre Mall as of Tuesday, September 17.

These new shelters, along with existing heated shelters at Northwest Polytechnic and the Community Knowledge Campus, provide transit users with added comfort and protection from the elements, especially during colder months.

City providing free transit for youth

Starting today, September 5, transit doors are swinging wide open to provide free transit fare for all those 17 and under.

The move comes as part of the City’s efforts to improve accessibility and increase transit ridership.

“Providing free transit fares for youth was an important decision for City Council. Our aim with this choice was to support families by encouraging and facilitating healthy individual and family lifestyles and transportation options that are inclusive and affordable to all residents,” says Mayor Jackie Clayton.
