City Council highlights for the meeting held June 8, 2026

Delegations

Ryan Blais and Serge Martin spoke to Council about their public communication. Council directed Administration to bring back a document to a future Council Committee of the Whole meeting regarding an internal Code of Conduct Pledge for Council. 

MLA Nolan Dyck, Grande Prairie, and MLA Ron Wiebe, Grande Prairie – Wapiti, provided a provincial update to City Council on Budget 2026 outcomes, Bills passed in the Legislature, and a discussion about Council’s 2026 Advocacy Priorities.

Delegations

Jenn Flynn and Cari Foster presented to Council on behalf of APPLE Schools, a health and well-being initiative, sharing information about the programs and initiatives being delivered already at Alexander Forbes, Roy Bickell, Avondale, and Crystal Park schools. APPLE Schools aims to increase awareness about their project and the impact this work is having on children’s physical health, mental wellbeing, and school engagement. Council received the presentation for information.

Mayor Jackie Clayton proclaimed May 3 – 9, 2026, as Goodwill Week. Goodwill Industries of Alberta celebrates the incredible communities who have helped the organization realize is mission of connecting Albertans with disabilities to meaningful employment. Through the generosity of donors, shoppers, and members of the community, Goodwill can help Albertans achieve their goals of workplace independence.

Mayor Statement On Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives and Red Dress Day 2026

Today, the City of Grande Prairie joins communities across Canada in recognizing Red Dress Day and honouring Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives.

This day is a time to remember the lives lost, reflect on the ongoing impacts of violence against Indigenous people, and renew our shared commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. We recognize and thank Métis artist Jaime Black, creator of the REDress Project, for a powerful symbol that continues to raise awareness and inspire action.

Kick-off rodeo season at Council’s annual free Stompede breakfast

The City of Grande Prairie is inviting residents and visitors to kick off the 2026 Grande Prairie Stompede with a free community pancake breakfast.

The breakfast takes place Wednesday, May 27, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. in the H.A. Rice Plaza at Bonnetts Energy Centre. Parking is available in east, west and south lots. 

The event offers a welcoming opportunity for the community to gather, enjoy a hot breakfast and connect with Council at the start of a busy and exciting week in the city.
