Mayor Jackie Clayton proclaimed May 1 – May 8 as Youth Week in Grande Prairie. Youth week recognizes and celebrates the contributions, achievements and potential of your people in our community and encourages collaboration between youth, organizations, educators, businesses & residents to build a thriving environment for youth in GP.
Mayor Jackie Clayton proclaimed May 4-10 as Mental Health Week in Grande Prairie. During Mental Health Month, we come together to raise awareness, support one another, promote access to resources, and encourage open conversations about mental health. By fostering understanding, acceptance, and compassion, we can build a stronger, healthier community where no one feels alone in their mental health journey.
2026 Weed Inspector Appointments
Council appointed Barb Welander, Avery Morrow, Jaden Carroll, and Jaydon Bayer as Weed Inspectors under the Weed Control Act of Alberta for the 2026 season. Weed inspectors assist in proactively managing noxious and prohibited noxious weeds.
As part of the Weed Control Act, Council also appointed the General Appeals Board as an Independent Appeals Panel for 2026. An independent appeal panel’s responsibility is to determine appeals of inspector’s notices, local authority’s notices and debt recovery notices.
Housing and Homelessness Advisory Committee Appointments
Council appointed the following to the Housing and Homelessness Advisory Committee:
- Brad Cameron, Brittany Oracheski, Jane Manning, Alicia Jones, and Edwin Aluku for terms ending December 31, 2027;
- Shelby Fitzpatrick, Shelly Dachuk, Jared Gossen, Julie Phelps for terms ending December 31, 2028;
- Councillor O'Connor for a term ending October 18, 2026; and
- Tammy Wentzell as Chair for a term of six months.
Bylaw C-1395S – Amendment to the Fees, Rates & Charges Bylaw
Council gave three readings to Bylaw C-1395S, being an amendment to the Fees, Rates & Charges Bylaw.
Q4 2025 Financial Report
Council received the unaudited financial statements and supporting information for the year ending December 31, 2025 for information. Council approved the transfer of the 2025 operating surplus of $3,786,000 in the amounts of:
- $300,000 to the Community Enhancement Reserve,
- $2,336,000 to the Financial Stabilization Reserve; and
- $1,150,000 to the Facility Renewal Reserve.
2025 Audited Consolidated Financial Statements
Council approved the audited consolidated financial statements of the City of Grande Prairie for the year ended December 31, 2025.
Correspondence to the Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services
Council directed the Mayor to write to the Minister regarding proposed changes to disability benefits, requesting the release of local impact data including the number of residents affected, further consultation with Grande Prairie residents, and a pause to program changes until this information and feedback are considered.
Surface Lease Agreement – ATCO Gas & Pipeline Ltd.
Council approved a lease agreement with ATCO Gas & Pipelines Ltd. for a portion of Plan 8721915, Block 1, Lot 94 PUL.
Policy 220 – Fair Access Policy
Council approved Policy 220, being the Fair Access Policy, as presented. The Fair Access Policy introduces a consistent, data-driven framework to guide current and future affordability programs, helping Council make clear, sustainable decisions during annual budget planning.
