The City of Grande Prairie is starting its annual mosquito control operations today, to help reduce mosquito populations and help residents make the most of warm weather.
Work begins in spring and can continue through to September depending on the weather. The program targets mosquito larvae in standing water using a product approved by Health Canada that is designed specifically to control mosquitoes.
The main treatment includes a helicopter application on areas within the City’s mosquito control boundary in late April or early May. The City continues to monitor mosquito populations throughout the season and adjusts ground treatments based on what is found.
“Reducing mosquito populations early in the season supports a better outdoor experience for everyone,” said Parks Director, Kase DeVries. “This work helps create more enjoyable public spaces and supports residents in making the most of the warmer months.”
Residents in areas scheduled for treatment are notified in advance and provided with information about the operation. Residents with concerns are encouraged to contact AccessGP by calling 311.
