Stop Signs Being Installed on 110 Street and 104 Avenue

On Monday, October 24, the intersection of 110 Street and 104 Avenue is being converted to an all-way controlled stop.

Residents will see stop signs installed on all roads entering the intersection.

The change is warranted after an assessment of the intersection, traffic volumes, and sight lines. The addition of the all-way stop reduces traffic delays for all drivers who pass through that intersection.

Tree Mulching Begins Tuesday in Swanavon and Grande Banks

On Tuesday, September 13, crews will be mulching in Swanavon near Thrill Hill and Grande Banks on the Outer Waxwing Trail.

Mulching is when a large piece of equipment chops up small trees and shrubs. The mulch is left on site after it is chopped up as organic matter.

The work is being done in Swanavon and Grande Banks to improve safety, usability, and access in these areas.

It is anticipated the crews will be done mulching in September 16, weather permitting.

The City is asking that residents avoid these areas during this time.

City Reminds Residents of Elm Tree Pruning Ban

The City of Grande Prairie reminds residents that elm trees may only be pruned from October 1 to March 31 each year to prevent the spread of Dutch elm disease.

Residents seeking to prune elm trees are asked to call the City after September 30 to arrange elm tree pruning.

A province-wide elm tree pruning ban takes place from April 1 to September 30. This is one of the many protective measures taken to help control Dutch elm disease (DED).

City Initiates Full Snow and Ice Control Service Review

Public feedback is being collected on the City’s snow and ice control operations as part of a fulsome service review.

Currently, the City is exploring ways to better meet resident needs with snow and ice control operations by improving or adjusting service levels and adding or reallocating costs.

Residents are invited to participate in various public consultation activities online and in-person to inform City Council’s decisions on snow and ice, including:

Gravel Road Bans Declared as of Sunday, March 20

The City of Grande Prairie begins gravel road bans at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 20, restricting travel on all gravel roads within City limits.

All gravel roads will be at 75% axle weight between the hours of 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Gravel road bans are a standard practice for the City, aimed at protecting gravel roads in the region. The City of Grande Prairie may issue road bans during construction, regular maintenance, or due to special seasonal circumstances such as spring melt or above average weather conditions.

Residential Snow Clearing Begins March 2

A round of residential snow clearing starts tomorrow, Wednesday, March 2.

Residential snow clearing begins when activated by the City with consideration of snow accumulations and upcoming weather conditions.

Residential snow clearing occurs in two-week rotations and is completed by contracted snow removal crews from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the following neighbourhoods:

Parking Bans on Permanent Snow Routes Begin March 1

The City of Grande Prairie has announced parking bans on permanent snow routes coming into effect Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

The parking ban restricts parking on permanent snow routes (priority 2 routes) from Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Parking bans come into effect to ensure safe access to roadways during snow removal operations.

Residents may view a map of priority routes online at cityofgp.com/snow.
