Transit Implementing Service Changes as Part of Adjustment Review

Starting on August 19, Grande Prairie Transit is altering the frequency of several routes as part of a service adjustment review for all Transit service begins.

The changes coming into effect are as follows:

Route 5

  • Service frequency is being reduced to hourly throughout the day
  • The last trip will leave the Prairie Mall at:
    • 7:35 p.m. Monday to Wednesday and Saturday
    • 8:35 p.m. on Thursday and Friday
  • No changes to Sunday service

Route 6

City Issuing a Request for Information for Accessible Transportation Services

The City of Grande Prairie has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to gather information from potential service providers in order to help determine future options for accessible transportation.

The RFI is issued as a result of the Handibus Feasibility Study completed in 2018. The goal of this RFI is to gauge interest from service providers and to gain an understanding of readiness, capacity as well as feasibility and cost if this service was to be offered as a competitive bid.

Transit Holiday Hours for Easter Weekend

Transit services in Grande Prairie will be operating on holiday hours over the weekend due to the statutory holidays for Easter weekend.

The hours for the weekend are as follows:

Friday, April 19: Regular Sunday schedule (9:00 a.m. - 6:15 p.m.)

Saturday, April 20: Regular Saturday hours (8:30 a.m.- 10:15 p.m.)

Sunday, April 21: No service

Regular service resumes on Monday, April 22 with buses running 6:00 a.m.- 10:15 p.m.

Transit Routes Resume Normal Schedule Along Knowledge Way West on Saturday, March 9

Transit route 3 (including St. Joes and John Paul II), route 6, and route 7 are all returning to their normal routes and schedules along Knowledge Way West on Saturday, March 9.

The routes had been temporarily re-routed to accommodate construction in the area that is now complete.

The City of Grande Prairie thanks all riders for their patience and co-operation during the re-routing.

Accessible Transit Application

The purpose of this form is to obtain information about the applicant’s physical and/or cognitive functional ability to use regular bus service. Grande Prairie Accessible Transit will use this information to assess the applicant’s eligibility for Accessible Transit service. Fees for completing this form are the applicant’s responsibility.

Fees and Timelines

There are no fees associated with submitting this application. 

Transit Charter Service

The City of Grande Prairie offers a charter service which you can hire to transport your guests to a special event within the region of Grande Prairie. GP Transit can be your solution for your transportation needs.

Our charter buses can transport 37 passengers by seat and an additional 15 passengers standing.

There is a 2 hour minimum charge for any charter service. Applicants are obligated to pay full cost of the charter – this includes travel time from and back to the transit garage.
