Enforcement Services and Mobile Outreach transition to Grande Prairie Police Service

As of January 1, 2024, City of Grande Prairie Enforcement Services and Mobile Outreach have transitioned under the Grande Prairie Police Service (GPPS).  

Bringing Enforcement Services and Mobile Outreach under the GPPS is one of the many steps in the transition to a municipal police service, taking a more cohesive approach to public safety and empowering employees as a unified, collaborative team committed to serving the community.

Delegations

  • Ian MacDonald presented on behalf of the Grande Prairie Firefighters Association, with concerns regarding the 2024 City budget. City Council received the presentation for information.

City Budget

  • City Council approved the 2024 Operating and Capital Budgets as presented.
  • City Council approved, in principle, the 2025 to 2027 Operating and Capital Budgets as presented.
  • City Council approved bylaw C-1395M, being an amendment to the Fees, Rates, and Charges Bylaw.

City Council Highlights for the meeting held on November 27, 2023

Delegations

Ravindar Rupana presented to Council on behalf of Apple/Green Cabs to speak on road safety related to cab companies.

Council directed Administration to refer the Vehicle for Hire Bylaw to the appropriate standing committee for further discussion, and explore the option of a Taxi Commission.

Plaque Presentation

On behalf of Design Works Centre, City Council presented Donna Koch with a memorial plaque for former Councillor John Lehners.

Council’s Interfaith Breakfast brings faith-based organizations together on November 28

(Grande Prairie, AB – November 9, 2023) – Grande Prairie City Council is inviting the community to Council’s Interfaith Breakfast on November 28.

The event brings together residents and faith leaders from across religious backgrounds to gather, build community, and hear from local organizations.

The event occurs on November 28 at 7 a.m. at Teresa Sargent Hall and tickets are available online for $20 at the Bonnetts Energy Centre Box Office.

Council appointed Adrian Temple, Aiden St. Pierre, Atishay Goel, Daisy Nellis, Hannah Ungstad, Janee Chamberlain, Manya Singhal, Nabeel Malik, Peyton Wright, Rafael Malik, Tanvinder Rupana, and Tristan Paragas to the Youth Advisory Council for the 2023-2024 term.

LEDUC, ALBERTA – Alberta’s Mid-sized Cities Mayors Caucus (MCMC) gathered in Leduc for their Fall 2023 Caucus meetings to reaffirm their priorities, advocate for a provincial partnership, share ideas and resources, and determine next steps for the group.

The MCMC focus is concentrated in four areas of mutual interest:
