Social Services Workers Honoured at Virtual Passionate Heart Awards Celebration

Eight award recipients in the social services field were recognized at the 15th Annual Passionate Heart Awards, celebrated virtually this year.

Sponsored by Family Community Support Services (FCSS) in the City of Grande Prairie, County of Grande Prairie, towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith and Wembley, and the Village of Hythe, the Passionate Heart Awards celebrate people and organizations who contribute significantly to their community, enhance social services in the region, and are dedicated to improving quality of life.

2021 Award Recipients:

Women of Influence Awards 2021 Now Open for Nominations

Nominations are now open to recognize local women who have made a strong impact by promoting equality, providing opportunities for women in the community and breaking barriers in their field through the Women of Influence Awards

The Women of Influence Awards were created to commemorate International Women’s Day (IWD) in Grande Prairie and celebrate women’s achievements and promote equal opportunity for all.

Passionate Heart Awards Seeking Nominations for 2021

The County and City of Grande Prairie, towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith and Wembley and the Village of Hythe are currently seeking nominations of outstanding individuals and local organizations for the 2021 Annual Passionate Heart Awards. 

Award nominations are open for people and organizations who contribute significantly to their community, enhance social services in the region, and are dedicated to improving quality of life.

The four award categories include:

City Hosting Information Sessions on Potential Community Supportive Housing Location

The City of Grande Prairie is hosting in-person and online information sessions on November 23 and 24 for the community to learn more about a proposed rezoning for a potential Community Supportive Housing project.

Community Supportive Housing aims to end the experience of homelessness for people who face barriers by helping them achieve housing and personal stability. This is through providing approved tenants the direct support services they need for success in maintaining permanent housing.

City Provides Nearly $50,000 in Funding through Crime Mitigation Grant

The City of Grande Prairie awarded nearly $50,000 in funding to 18 local businesses and organizations at the Protective and Social Services Committee meeting today, through the Crime Mitigation Grant.

The Crime Mitigation Grant is a pilot project allowing for limited capital funding of project proposals by residents, businesses, not for profits, associations and charities within the City of Grande Prairie to mitigate crime-related concerns.

City Receives COVID-19 Community Response Funding for Vulnerable Populations from Canadian Medical Association Foundation

The City of Grande Prairie is proud to accept a $26,000 donation from the Canadian Medical Association Foundation (CMAF). The funds will be delivered to the city thanks to the COVID-19 Community Response Fund for Vulnerable Populations, the result of a collaboration between the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) and the CMAF.

The funds are being used locally to enable our community to better support and assist those experiencing homelessness in Grande Prairie.
