Community Group Funding Applications Now Available for 2022

Community groups or agencies are now able to apply for Community Group Funding for the 2022 funding cycle to support upcoming projects that enhance and enrich the community and quality of life for residents.

The City is proud to offer this funding opportunity as one of the many ways it supports local organizations making a positive impact in the community.

For the Community Group Funding cycle for 2022, funding is categorized based on Council’s Strategic Objectives as follows:

City Seeking Community Input on Development of Activity & Reception Centre in Smith Neighbourhood

Residents are invited to complete a survey on an Activity & Reception Centre in Smith subdivision that is planned to serve as an emergency reception centre and provide inclusive, affordable, accessible recreation opportunities for all members of the community.

A 5 to 10-minute survey is available for residents to share their thoughts, ideas and experience to help identify the activities that best suit our community’s recreation needs. It includes an opportunity for people to provide input on:

City Hosting Family Festivities in the Park presented by New Horizon Co-op & Winter Scavenger Hunt

The City of Grande Prairie is hosting two weekends of family-centered winter fun across February 6-7 and February 13-15 in Muskoseepi Park.

The Family Festivities in the Park presented by New Horizon Co-op feature tobogganing, skating, snow shoeing, free snowman kits and a brand-new ice luge provided by Nitehawk Year Round Adventure Park, and more.

Muskoseepi Park Pond Skating Moving to Bookings Only

Due to popular demand, public skating at the Muskoseepi Park will be by private bookings only effective Monday, December 14 in order to adhere to provincial health regulations.

Bookings are available in 1-hour timeslots at no charge by calling 780-538-0451 or online. Hours will be 10:00 a.m. -9:00 p.m. with the Ernie Radbourne Pavilion open during these hours for washroom access.

Bookings can be made up to three days in advance.

Grande Prairie Outdoor Pool Wrapping Successful First Season

The Grande Prairie Outdoor Pool has officially closed for the season after a successful first summer of operations.

The facility opened for the season on Saturday, July 4 with limited operations to maintain provincial health regulations around COVID-19. With these limitations in place, the facility still saw 411 bookings with an average of 25 people per booking for an estimated 10,275 visitors this summer.

City Encourages Residents to Participate in Neighbour Day Events on September 19

The City of Grande Prairie is encouraging residents to take part in Neighbour Day on Saturday, September 19 and do their part to build stronger relationships with others in their neighbourhoods and across the community.

“Now more than ever, initiatives like Neighbour Day are significant for our community,” says Mayor Bill Given.

Community Improvement Grant Open for Submissions Until October 1

The City of Grande Prairie is currently seeking applications for the Community Improvement Grant which provides opportunities for community groups and residents to start innovative and creative projects to improve the community.

To be eligible for the grant, projects must:

  • Provide an overall benefit to a neighbourhood or community
  • Involve a broad base of people to promote community development
  • Build community connections
  • Have a lifespan of a minimum of three years
