Residential Snow Clearing and Parking Bans on Permanent Snow Routes Begin

The City of Grande Prairie has announced a round of residential snow clearing and parking bans on permanent snow routes, starting on February 3.

Residential snow clearing begins when activated by the City with consideration of snow accumulations and upcoming weather conditions. Current snowfall and snow and freezing weather in the forecast for the remainder of the week have led to conditions where a round of residential snow clearing is warranted.

City Launches Survey on Traffic Operations

Grande Prairie residents may now participate in an online survey about traffic operations designed to help provide insight on City operations.

The ‘Did You Know?! All About Traffic Operations’ survey covers topics designed to shed light on the many considerations traffic operations staff balance when making decisions about traffic control in Grande Prairie.

The survey will remain open until January 8, and the results will be received for information by City administration.

City Advising Residents to Inspect Trees for Fireblight and Elm Aphids

The City of Grande Prairie is reminding residents to inspect their trees due to a rise in elm aphids and fireblight disease.

Fireblight

The recent wet weather has caused a resurgence of fireblight disease in Grande Prairie’s urban forest.

Apple, pear, hawthorn and mountain ash trees are vulnerable so owners of these trees are strongly recommended to check for symptoms and prune them immediately if fireblight is found.

City Seasonal Street Sweeping and Dust Suppression Operations Underway

The City of Grande Prairie has started seasonal street sweeping and dust suppression operations.

Street sweeping begins on arterial roads and includes the roadway, medians, concrete barriers, and boulevards. Sweeping of the arterial roadways is anticipated to last until late May, weather dependant.

City crews have also begun sweeping of all City trails.

Gravel Road Bans Declared as of Monday, April 13, 2020

The City of Grande Prairie begins gravel road bans on Monday, April 13, 2020.

All gravel roads will be at 50% axel weight 24 hours per day until further notice.

Road bans are a standard practice for the City, aimed at protecting gravel roads in the region. The City of Grande Prairie may issue road bans during construction, regular maintenance, or due to special seasonal circumstances such as spring melt or above average weather conditions.

City Focuses on Core Snow Clearing Services During Frigid Temperatures

The City of Grande Prairie is committed to maintaining snow clearing services, while ensuring the safety of all road users and our crews, as well as preserving the integrity of heavy-duty equipment.

During times of extreme cold, such as Grande Prairie is currently experiencing, equipment requires additional care and maintenance to ensure proper function of hydraulic components of the equipment. It is for this reason only critical services are currently being conducted, such as maintenance of the priority 1 and 2 road network.

Parking Bans on Permanent Snow Routes Begin Wednesday and Residential Snow Clearing Begins Thursday

A two-week round of residential snow clearing has been triggered by the City and will begin on Thursday, January 9.

Residential snow clearing is being activated due to recent snowfall, as well as due to forecasted snowfall. Residential snow clearing occurs in two-week rotations and is completed by contracted snow removal crews from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Residential snow clearing occurs on weekdays in the following neighbourhoods:
