2023 Passionate Heart Awards Seeking Nominations

The Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) teams at the City of Grande Prairie, County of Grande Prairie and towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith and Wembley are looking to honour deserving locals and groups in the social services sector at the Annual Passionate Heart Awards.

Nominations are welcome for people and organizations who contribute significantly to their community, enhance social services in the region, and are dedicated to improving quality of life.

Award categories include:

City Conducting Homelessness Point-in-Time Count on September 26

On Monday, September 26 and 27, the City of Grande Prairie is taking part in a coordinated effort to measure homelessness across Canada with its 6th bi-annual Point-in-Time (PiT) Count on Homelessness.

From 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., approximately 35 volunteers will canvass neighbourhoods throughout the city while wearing luminous safety vests and t-shirts with the City's logo. Volunteers will engage everyone they meet in conversation on housing and homelessness and ask those who say they are experiencing homelessness to take a brief survey.

Grande Prairie Local Immigration Partnership Hosting International Welcoming Week

The City of Grande Prairie’s Local Immigration Partnership Council is inviting residents to join in International Welcoming Week events September 10 to 16.



International Welcoming Week is designed to bring together new and long-term residents to create communities and spaces where everyone feels like they belong. It features a showcase of supports, services, and amenities that are available in the community.

Explore Grande Prairie Welcome Packages Available for Newcomers

The City of Grande Prairie is offering new Explore Grande Prairie welcome packages to support individuals new to Canada with access to City recreational facilities and public transit.  

Each package includes five passes to the Eastlink Centre, five passes to the Activity Reception Centre, and a three-month pass for free transit. The Explore Grande Prairie welcome packages are designed as a one-time opportunity to welcome new immigrants with refugee, work permits, and student visa status into our community.

Registered Level 2 System Navigator Orientation Guide

The Community Compass System Navigators Collective is an opportunity to better serve the needs of people who access services throughout our community, allowing us to build sustainability into our approaches that we can adapt over time. This guide has been developed to support Grande Prairie and the area and those of you who, formally and informally, provide ‘navigation’ as part of your role.

Local Seniors Invited for Tea on June 9th

Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) teams at the County of Grande Prairie, City of Grande Prairie, and towns of Beaverlodge, Wembley and Sexsmith will be joined by community partners in welcoming local seniors to a free Seniors Tea event on June 9 in honour of Seniors’ Week.

Seniors from the County, City and neighbouring communities are invited to attend this free event, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the TARA Centre at Evergreen Park.

Youth Advisory Council to Celebrate Youth Week 2022

The City of Grande Prairie’s Youth Advisory Council is inviting local youth to join in National Youth Week events from May 1 to 7. 

National Youth Week is designed to express appreciation for youth and their active participation in the community. Youth are involved in recreation, volunteerism, arts, and sports, creating meaningful activities and spaces for their peers. The activities for National Youth Week are designed to support and give back to local youth.
