Local Athletes Receive $9,968 in Funding from Pursuit of Excellence Committee

The City of Grande Prairie granted $9,968 to local athletes through the latest round of Pursuit of Excellence Funding.

$3000 was awarded through the Athlete Development Fund. This fund assists coaches and athletes to attend clinics and conferences or high performance and specialized training in an effort to advance their skills in their particular sport.

Active Play Park Program Season Launches July 2 at City Parks

The City of Grande Prairie’s Active Play Park Program returns for the season on July 2, 2019.

Active Play is a free, drop-in, recreational activity, encouraging creative and active play between children in public, outdoor space. It takes place across a variety of parks and playgrounds throughout the summer to encourage children to play and make new friends within their community.

The Active Play leaders visit a different playground each weekday afternoon from 1:30 p.m.- 4:30 p.m. from July 2 - August 23. The locations for this year are as follows:

The City is proud to offer a fun selection of summer camps across our many facilities. A variety of camps are available for children with interests in athletics, recreation or culture. These camps are designed to provide every child with exciting games, activities, challenges, and experiences.

Educational Workshop on Board Governance Coming to Grande Prairie

On Saturday, April 13 local non-profits have an opportunity to learn more about board governance at the Introduction to Board Governance: Understanding Your Roles and Responsibilities workshop hosted by the City of Grande Prairie and presented by the Alberta Culture and Tourism Board Development Program.

The workshop takes place from 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. at the Ernie Radbourne Pavilion in Muskoseepi Park and includes a lunch. Registration is $25 and is available online at econnect.cityofgp.com using course code 53774.

Active Play' Launching July 3 at City Parks

On July 3 the City of Grande Prairie is launching Active Play, a new summer initiative encouraging creative and active play through weekly themed activities.

Active Play is a free, drop-in, recreational activity. It will be at a number of City Parks throughout the summer to encourage children to play and make new friends.

The Active Play leaders visit a different playground each morning and each afternoon Tuesday through Thursday from July 3- August 30.

The program is geared towards children ages 6-12 years old and is free for all to attend.
