(Grande Prairie, Alta. – May 8, 2026) – The City of Grande Prairie and Northwestern Polytechnic (NWP) are proud to announce Design Works Centre will serve as home ice for the inaugural Wolves Women’s Hockey team beginning in Fall 2026.

The addition brings a new level of sport and energy into the community and the arena, building on Design Works Centre’s role as a gathering place for residents, athletes and visitors. From daily recreation to major events, the facility continues to evolve as a place where the community comes together.

The City of Grande Prairie is proud to host the 2026 Canadian Wrestling Championships from April 24 to 26, 2026, welcoming U15, U17 and U19 athletes from across Canada to compete.

This event brings together top young wrestling talent from across the country, offering athletes a chance to compete at a national level and gain valuable experience. As part of Wrestling Canada Lutte’s mission to grow the sport nationwide, the championships promise an exciting showcase of emerging talent. 

City Council announced the recipients of the 2025 Volunteer Awards at the March 2 Council meeting, celebrating outstanding contributions through the George Repka Outstanding Achievement Award and the Bill Bowes Volunteer Organization Award.

The City of Grande Prairie is extending the nomination period for the 2025 Bill Bowes Volunteer Organization of the Year Award to provide an additional opportunity to celebrate the groups that strengthen our community through service. Nominations are open until December 31, 2025. 

(Grande Prairie, Alta. – November 4, 2025) – The City of Grande Prairie has awarded Fossil Energy official naming rights for the Bear Creek Ball Diamonds, which will now be known as Fossil Energy Ball Park. 

The City of Grande Prairie is now accepting nominations for the 2025 Volunteer Awards, celebrating the outstanding individuals and organizations that make a lasting impact in the community. Nominations are open until October 17, 2025.

Two award categories are available:

The City of Grande Prairie is accepting applications for the Community Improvement Grant and the Pursuit of Excellence Scholarships, both designed to build quality of life, inspire local talent and create opportunities across the community.

Community Improvement Grant

After years of vision, planning, and passionate community advocacy, the City of Grande Prairie broke ground on the Multisport Dome at Trader Ridge. The dome will provide residents year-round access to a full-size FIFA regulation field with flexible configurations to support soccer, football, rugby, and track & field sports.

The City of Grande Prairie has awarded Keyera official naming rights for the Activity and Reception Centre, which has now been renamed Keyera Place Grande Prairie. 

“Naming rights partnerships are a great example of the power of engaging relationships, and the generous, entrepreneurial spirit of Grande Prairie,” said City of Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton. “We’re proud to welcome Keyera to be part of the history of this facility, and we’re thankful for their partnership and the difference it will make in the community.”

The City of Grande Prairie is calling on residents to get involved as volunteers for the upcoming 2025 Special Olympics Alberta Summer Games, taking place July 11–13.
