The City of Grande Prairie has declared a two-week residential snow clearing rotation following the recent snowfall accumulation. Contracted crews will begin clearing in Friday Week A neighbourhoods tomorrow starting with Arbour Hills, Gateway, Northridge, Royal Oaks and Westgate.
"With the recent snowfall crews are beginning residential snow clearing to improve road conditions and keep neighbourhood streets accessible," says Wade Nellis, Director of Engineering and Transportation Services. "We appreciate residents’ patience and cooperation as crews work to clear snow and enhance drivability."
Crews will continue into Monday Week A neighbourhoods after the weekend which includes Hillside, Mountview and VLA/Montrose.
How Residential Snow Clearing Works
Residential snow clearing is a contracted service that only happens when declared by the City. It is not ongoing but follows a scheduled two-week rotation. Once declared clearing starts in Week A neighbourhoods on their designated days and continues in Week B neighbourhoods the following week. Each neighbourhood is cleared the day before its scheduled garbage collection day in its respective week.
This declared rotation will be completed in full before residential snow clearing ends. If more clearing is needed later in the season the City will issue a new declaration.
Street Parking During Snow Clearing
No-parking signs will be posted in areas scheduled for clearing. To help crews complete their work efficiently please move vehicles off the street before clearing begins. Vehicles left on the street may be ticketed or towed.
