“Gathering over tea has long been a way to bring people together, and we’re excited to carry on that tradition at the Forbes Homestead,” said Mayor Jackie Clayton. “These afternoons create a meaningful connection between past and present, offering residents and visitors a chance to experience the history that helped shape our community.”
Guests will be served a classic teatime selection for $10 per person, which includes a scone, jam, butter and a choice of tea, coffee, or juice. Following the tea, guests are invited for a guided tour of the homestead to learn more about its unique history.
Advance booking is required. To reserve a spot, contact the Grande Prairie Museum at 780-830-7090.
Can’t make the afternoon tea? The Reverend Forbes Homestead is open for drop-in guided tours Wednesday to Saturday, 1:00 p.m. to 4:30p.m. until August 30th.
About the Tradition
The roots of afternoon tea at the Forbes Homestead date back to the early 1900s. Agnes Forbes, wife of Reverend Alexander Forbes, was a pioneer and caregiver in the region, known for welcoming neighbours and travellers into her home. Alongside providing care and guidance, she often offered tea and conversation, creating a space of comfort and connection during the early settlement years.
Today, that spirit continues as the homestead opens its doors for another season of shared stories and simple pleasures.
