Our region is known for trailblazing and entrepreneurship- for being at the heart of the action where there is always upcoming opportunity, innovation and room for everyone to make Grande Prairie part of their story.
The Women of Influence Awards recognize the women behind this action. They recognize the women who are championing gender equality, breaking barriers in their field, achieving new heights and advocating for greater access for all. It is through their actions we continue Grande Prairie’s growth and foster a strong, vibrant, connected vision for our community.
These awards recognize our champions who go under recognized and shine a spotlight on their stories, needs and experiences that are vital to our community’s fabric and future growth.
Championing gender equality accelerates community and economic development and leads to inclusive, caring communities with a high quality of life and opportunity for all. The Women of Influence Awards are the City’s investment in this endeavour toward a grander future.
The Women of Influence Awards were created to commemorate International Women’s Day (IWD) in Grande Prairie while celebrating women’s achievements and promoting equal opportunity for all.
International Women’s Day (IWD) is an event recognized worldwide to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and to advocate for the continued advancements of equal rights.
The theme for International Women's Day 2025 is #AccelerateAction, which calls on everyone to unite in efforts to speed up women's equality worldwide. According to the World Economic Forum, it will take 134 years to achieve full gender parity at the current rate of progress. This is approximately five generations from now—far too long.
It’s time to Accelerate Action to make meaningful strides toward equality. We all have a role to play in building a future where everyone can reach their full potential. The success of women is the success of all.
The awards are made possible by the City of Grande Prairie, Northwestern Alberta Foundation, Grande Prairie and District Chamber of Commerce and Odyssey House.
The 2025 Women of Influence Awards are presented by Peace Diagnostic Imaging with support from the following sponsors:
