The Grande Prairie Museum’s latest exhibit “120 Year of Alberta: Strong and Free” Highlights Alberta’s 120th anniversary and the settlement of the Peace Country. Visitors can check out the Alberta fun facts and view Indigenous and Pioneer artefacts. Children can play in a pioneer caboose, pretend to pump water and churn butter. Local Amateur Radio Volunteer Operators will be on site to provide ham radio demonstrations. International Museum Day is also the opening of the Heritage Village.
Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Boreal Wetland Centre! Step into our open-air museum and explore winding interpretive trails where nature tells its own story! Join guided tours, and dive into citizen science projects that are fun for all ages. Discover the hidden wonders of wetlands, dig into the secrets of soil, and get up close with the amazing plants and creatures that call this ecosystem home. It's wild, it's educational, and it's an experience you won’t want to miss! The Boreal Wetland Centre is an outdoor center; visitors are reminded to bring appropriate weather clothing and footwear for unpaved walking trails. Water, snacks and washrooms are available onsite.
The Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum invites the public to experience International Museums Day at the museum! Explore our galleries and fossil touch table, engage with community booths, grab a bite to eat at the cafe, play at our playground, and build a dinosaur foam puzzle in the classroom! Explore our other summer adventures too, like Wapiti River Rafting and Dino Summer Camps, dinomuseum.ca.
At the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie, visitors can experience two powerful exhibitions: A Second Horizon, featuring the vibrant works of Nam Duc Nguyen and Lionel Allingham, and Reconnect by Elsa Robinson. To celebrate International Museum Day, the Gallery will also offer drop-in art activities inspired by these exhibitions, inviting visitors of all ages to create expressive artworks inspired by the exhibits. All materials are provided—come enjoy a day of creativity and connection through art!
Veterans Memorial Gardens & Interpretive Centre celebrates International Museums Day by inviting visitors to experience 'Women of War: Trailblazers of Service,' our groundbreaking exhibition that opened this spring. The exhibition features compelling stories of over 40 regional female soldiers and showcases diverse perspectives from Indigenous, Japanese, Chinese, Black, and European-Canadian women who transformed societal norms. Visit our Women of War Memorial, which stands as a testament to the 50,000+ women who served in military and non-combat roles.
