After years of vision, planning, and passionate community advocacy, the City of Grande Prairie broke ground on the Multisport Dome at Trader Ridge. The dome will provide residents year-round access to a full-size FIFA regulation field with flexible configurations to support soccer, football, rugby, and track & field sports.

This milestone marks the realization of a project residents have championed for and reflects the community’s dedication to creating a space where athletes, families, and local organizations can come together to train, compete, and connect. The new dome will stand as a state-of-the-art facility designed to grow alongside Grande Prairie’s thriving and active population.

“The Multisport Dome is more than a place to play. It’s a year-round hub for activity, a driver of sport tourism, and a key investment in our city's future,” said Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton. “It shows our commitment to quality of life and cements Grande Prairie’s role as a leader in sport tourism and regional development."

The County of Grande Prairie is supporting the City, contributing up to $2.8 million towards the actual construction cost. This investment reflects the shared commitment of both municipalities to enhance regional recreation opportunities and ensure residents across the region benefit from high-quality sports infrastructure.

“This facility represents a significant investment in shared community recreation facilities,” said County of Grande Prairie Reeve Bob Marshall. “Through our cost sharing agreement with the City, the County is supporting projects that contribute to broader access while continuing to focus on the long-term needs of our own communities. We look forward to seeing how the Multisport Dome serves users across the region once complete.”

Atkinson Construction was awarded the design-build contract following a competitive Request for Proposal (RFP) process. Chosen for its sustainable design and efficient construction, the facility will enable Grande Prairie to host regional and provincial competitions, boosting sport tourism and economic growth.

"Grande Prairie is growing rapidly, and this project reflects the kind of high-demand infrastructure that supports that growth," said Burke Atkinson, President of Atkinson Construction. "We’re proud to help deliver a facility that meets both current and future needs of this region.”

Naming rights for the Multisport Dome will also be available, offering businesses and organizations a unique opportunity to align their brand with one of the region’s largest recreation investments. For details, visit cityofgp.com/naming-rights
