The City of Grande Prairie announces a series of workshops as part of the Grande Prairie Inclusive and Caring Community Initiative (GPICC). The City is inviting local organizations and employers to participate in upcoming workshops to share their experiences in relation to attracting, retaining, and integrating immigrants into our local community.

The initiative, supported by the Alberta Government's Settlement, Integration, and Language Project (SILP) Grant of $300,000, brings together employers, service providers, and Ethnocultural organizations to collaborate and share ideas. This grant enhances the city's capacity to welcome and support new residents, ensuring their successful integration into the vibrant community.

In Grande Prairie, immigrants make up approximately 11 per cent of the population, equating to over 7,000 individuals with diverse skills, experiences, and backgrounds. The City of Grande Prairie is dedicated to assisting local employers and organizations in tapping into this diverse talent pool and supporting newcomer integration.

"The GPICC represents Grande Prairie's commitment to a mosaic of cultures and experiences," said Mayor Jackie Clayton. "Participation in these engagement sessions is crucial for fostering a place where diversity is celebrated, and every individual feels valued."

Multiple workshops for employers, service providers and ethnocultural organizations are taking place from January 8 to January 16. These sessions will be held in-person at the Grande Prairie Museum, Ernie Radbourne Pavilion and online through Zoom. For session and registration details, please visit engage.cityofgp.com/gpicc.
