The City of Grande Prairie is excited to announce the launch of its annual infrastructure improvement program for 2023. The $27.53 million budget will be invested in improving roads, sidewalks, trails, storm lines, bridges, intersections, traffic signals and more.
“The City of Grande Prairie is committed to enhancing the quality of life for our residents and visitors, while continuing to support economic readiness. Our $27.53 million infrastructure improvement program for 2023 is a testament to that commitment. Through strategic investments in key infrastructure, we are extending the life of existing assets and expanding new infrastructure to meet the growing needs of our community," said Mayor Jackie Clayton.
"Our user-friendly maps on our social media and website are an excellent way to keep residents informed about monthly construction projects and potential traffic impacts. We thank our contractor partners for their work and look forward to seeing the positive impact of these projects on our city."
Through strategic investment, the City is extending the life of key infrastructure and expanding new infrastructure that residents rely on every day.
The 2023 budget allocates the following investments:
- $10.95 million for road repairs (including the Minor resurfacing & concrete crushing programs)
- $9.75 million for old Highway 43 improvements
- $3.25 million for storm line replacement and rehabilitation
- $1.5 million for pedestrian links
- $880,000 for Inspection Programs
- $600,000 for intersection improvements
- $350,000 for bridge repairs
- $125,000 for railway crossing - maintenance
- $125,000 for design & construction standards review

Capital construction projects beginning this week:
115 Avenue
The City of Grande Prairie is set to begin a road construction project on 115 Avenue, between 99 Street and 101A Street. The work will include milling the existing road surface and laying down a new pavement surface, spot replacing concrete curb and sidewalks, minor repairs to the storm sewer infrastructure, re-establishing road line markings/crosswalk lines, and landscaping.
The project is scheduled to begin today, Monday, May 8th, with crews operating from Monday to Saturday. The project is expected to be completed by mid-July. During construction, traffic will be restricted but maintained, and the speed limit will be reduced to 30 km/hour. Drivers are advised to proceed with caution, watch for flag people and anticipate potential traffic delays.
2023 Trail Program
The City of Grande Prairie is excited to announce the start of the 2023 Trail Program, improving and expanding the city's trail network. The program will cover three sites in the city:
- West Side Trail on 110 Street between 100 Avenue & 104 Avenue. This site will begin on May 9th and is expected to be completed by the end of May, weather dependent.
- Maskwoeth Trail Connection located North of 116 Avenue and West of 108 Street. This site will begin in mid-May and is expected to be completed by the end of May/Early June, weather dependent.
- Parkside Ball Diamonds and school, located North of 88 Avenue, West of Resources Road. This site has an estimated start date of early July and an estimated completion date of mid/end of July, also weather dependent.
The 2023 Trail Program is part of the City of Grande Prairie's ongoing commitment to improving and enhancing the quality of life for its residents. The project will create safe, accessible and enjoyable trails for people to explore and enjoy the city's natural beauty.
