The City of Grande Prairie is pleased to announce that it has received a two-year grant of $275,430 from the Government of Alberta’s Low-Income Transit Pass (LITP) funding program.
LITP funding assists individuals living on low-income access affordable transit. The funding provides the support needed to continue offering subsidized passes for those in need.
“Supporting Albertans through today’s inflationary crisis is our government’s primary focus. We recognize the importance of transit, especially for those who rely on it to meet their essential needs. Transportation to a job, to school or a doctor’s appointment is not optional, which is why our government is proud to support low-income transit pass programs”, said Minister of Seniors, Community and Social Services, Jeremy Nixon.
"The City of Grande Prairie is grateful to the Government of Alberta for their support of our low-income transit pass programs”, said Grande Prairie Mayor, Jackie Clayton. “This funding will go a long way in assisting our City’s efforts to ensure that those in need have affordable transit options, enabling them to access employment, education, healthcare, government services, and community resources, regardless of income level.”
In 2022, more than 2,500 people used a City of Grande Prairie low-income transit pass provided through initiatives like the Transit Access Program, the Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped Program (AISH), and the Explore Grande Prairie Welcome Package.
